While their flagship model, the Burn-E 2 MAX, broke almost every performance record in our database and is a personal favorite for many scooter enthusiasts, its hefty price tag of £4500 has made it out of reach for many riders.
Its base model, the Burn-E 2, has similar acceleration, a lower top speed, and costs a lot less, but it’s still a 100.0 lb scooter, and for some riders, that’s hard to live with.
This is why the KLIMA is so exciting: All the passion, design, and rigorous testing we’ve come to expect from NAMI plugged into a new, more portable form factor at a more approachable price sounds like a recipe for success. And boy, did they deliver, from its rugged, sporty design to its high-quality components, the KLIMA is a sight to behold. With its insane Sub 5 second 0-30.0 mph acceleration time, this scooter is sure to get your heart racing.
The NAMI KLIMA comes in two versions, and for what this scooter offers, the base model (with a 25 Ah battery) is an absolute steal at $2,300. During our testing, we opted for the $2,999 MAX version of the KLIMA, which comes with a larger 30 Ah battery. The larger battery mostly affects the range, but otherwise, the two versions are basically identical. We will highlight any differences between the two where applicable.
Is it Good for Bigger, Heavier Riders?
It’s a NAMI, so it’s obviously well suited for heavier riders. With aweight capacity of up to 265.0 lbs, this scooter can undoubtedly hold a lot of weight; it’s not the highest, but it can support a wide range of riders. The60V 30A battery, 2*1000W rated motors, and powerful controllerswork in tandem to provide all the performance you require to support a heavier rider. This scooter won’t struggle on most terrains or tasks thrown at it. Slopes? Piece of cake!
In terms of ride ergonomics, the scooter features a42.0-inch tall handlebar (the tallest after the BURN E-2 and BURN E-2 MAX on the database),solidly built components, and adjustable suspension, that offer comfort and a confidence-inspiring ride for heavier riders.
The tall handlebar ensures that taller riders won’t have to hunch over while riding, while the sturdy frame means the scooter won’t break down from the rider’s heavy weight. On the other hand, the adjustable suspension allows riders to fine-tune the suspension’s feel and travel according to their weight and the terrain they ride on.
The only potential issue for larger riders may be the deck size; it is of average size and potentially less comfortable for those with bigger feet. However, with proper feet placement, they can still achieve a snug fit that can work really well (we will touch more on this in the ride quality).

When it comes to scooters in this price range, the VSETT 10+ has been the go-to for comparisons in terms of acceleration. However, times are changing, and a new powerhouse has entered the scene: the NAMI KLIMA. While the race to 15.0 mphwas neck and neck, it’s at higher speeds where the true divergence becomes apparent, making the NAMI KLIMA the newfound yardstick for this class of scooters.
This new powerhouse can go from 0-30.0 mph in less than 5 seconds, clocking in at 4.9 seconds against the 5.3 s of the Vsett 10+. This is a feat that only a select few scooters have been able to achieve. In fact, out of the over 100 scooters that we have tested, only 12 have made the cut for this sub-5-second time, and they are mostly larger, heavier, powerful, and much more expensive models.
To put this into perspective, this acceleration time rivals the Dualtron Storm, which costs twice as much! And the lead is so much bigger in a race against other scooters in its class. For instance, the Roadrunner RS5+ takes 7.6 seconds to hit 30.0 mph. Let’s not even mention the legendary Kaabo Wolf Warrior X GT that also trails at 5.9 seconds.
This outstanding performance can be attributed to the perfect harmony between the 40 A sine wave controllers, powerful motors, and great thumb throttle response . The sine-wave controller helps provide excellent speed control throughout the acceleration process and smooths out any jerky inputs from the thumb throttle while the motor provides plenty of power to get up to speed quickly.
The thumb throttle response is smooth enough for maintaining relatively low speeds in busy bike lanes and sidewalks without having to worry about sudden lurches in speed. And when you encounter areas without bike lanes, this scooter’s acceleration easily keeps up with traffic without any problems. Of course, we don’t recommend riding alongside cars if you can avoid it, but it’s nice to know this scooter has the power to hold its own if needed.
Top Speed
With twin 1000W motors, a 60V battery, and twin 40A sine-wave controllers, the KLIMA scooter sounds like a true beast. But, how fast does it actually go?
Well, while it’s not aiming for a record-breaking top speed, this scooter still hits an impressive 41.6 mph, which is faster than you’ll ever want to go on 10.0 inch wheels.
Compared to other scooters in its class, it’s faster than the Phantom V3 at 40.3 mph, on par with the roadrunner RS5+ at 41.6 mph, and slower than the Vsett 10+ at 43.3 mph and the Kaabo Wolf Warrior X GT at 45.3 mph.
The scooter has five different riding modes, for complete control over how fast you go. E mode cuts your speed down to 30%, D to 60%, S to 80%, C to 90%, and X, gives you the max speed. And if you really want to push the limits and need an extra boost, the Turbo setting in the p-settings will give you a 12% increase in power and speed.
To fully activate the turbo mode you need to hold the + button for a second while the scooter is moving (a TURBO pictogram will appear). “ON” will appear under the turbo icon when it is active.
Hill Climb
If you’re someone who loves to take on hills with your electric scooter, the NAMI KLIMA might pique your interest. Its powerful 1000W dual motor makes it a pretty impressive hill climber.
We put it to the test on our steep 10% 200.0 ft hill test, and it zipped up there in just 7.7 seconds, maintaining a steady average speed of 17.8 mph. This performance puts it on par or even better than other scooters in its class.
Range and Battery
The NAMI KLIMA comes with two battery options: the 60V 25A on the Base model, which has a manufacturer-claimed range of 50.0 miles, and the 60V 30A (LG 21700 cells) on the Max Version, which offers a manufacturer-claimed range of 60.0 miles. These numbers tend to be overstated and it’s important to take them with a grain of salt.
That’s exactly what we did when we tested the NAMI KLIMA Max with the 60V 30A battery. While the manufacturer claimed a range of 60.0 miles, we only managed to get 25.0 miles when riding aggressively in turbo mode–that’s less than half its stated range.
But before you lose all hope, it’s essential to note that we were pushing the scooter to its limits, and by riding conservatively and avoiding turbo mode, you could easily get over 30.0 miles on a full battery.
The NAMI KLIMA’s battery takes around 10 hours to charge with the standard charger, but if you need a faster charging time, you have the option of using a fast charger that reduces the time to just 5 hours.
Note: the battery is the only difference between the standard and max versions. Unless you need the extra range or specifically want LG batteries, going for the 25 Ah battery option and saving $600 seems like a smart choice.
Braking
The NAMI KLIMA comes with state-of-the-art Logan two-piston full hydraulic disc brakes with 160mm rotors on the front and rear, as well as regenerative braking for added stopping power. After extensive testing, we can confirm that the Logan hydraulic brakes installed on the NAMI KLIMA provide superior stopping power compared to other brands like Zoom and NUTT, often found on scooters in this class.
From 15.0 mph, the KLIMA was able to come to a stop in an impressive 9.4 feet, making it one of the best braking systems we’ve tested yet. The tires on this scooter also deserve a special mention as they provide excellent grip, which helps reduce sliding and skidding when braking, significantly reducing the stopping distance.
During most of the testing, the regen braking was set to 0. Out of the box, the regen is set to 1 out of 5 (the minimum setting) — but even then, some users may find it a bit too aggressive. We highly recommend taking advantage of the disc brakes, as they provide more than enough stopping power and have a progressive feeling that lets you brake gently without any sudden jolts.
Ride Quality
The riding experience on this scooter is truly unparalleled. The dual rebound adjustable suspension (KKE coil shocks) and the 10.0-inch tubeless pneumatic street tires work in perfect harmony and make for a smooth and stable ride, even when going off-road.
The dial on the suspension adjusts the rebound, letting you determine how quickly the suspension decompresses. You can also adjust the preload by tightening the collars on the bottom of the shocks. The suspension is adjusted pretty well out of the box, so we would suggest starting there. Later on, you can personalize your experience as you better understand how the suspension feels and responds to different circumstances, such as varying terrain or rider weight.
Onto the ride ergonomics:
You may think of the KLIMA as a mini Burn-E, but don’t be misled by the “mini” label. The word “mini” would imply a small, cramped cockpit and riding platform, which is not the case. The deck measures an average of 18 inches, which may look short at first glance, but you will be pleasantly surprised at how comfortably you can position your feet. This is due to the distance the platform is positioned back from the handlebars. This makes for good ergonomics: you won’t feel squished up against the cockpit, and you will naturally settle into a comfortable riding position.The deck to handlebars height is a comfortable 42.0 inches, making it perfect for both shorter and (especially) taller riders alike. The locking grips feature a cool, angular texture for added comfort and secure grip.
All the dimensions and design choices on the KLIMA come together so nicely, while the handling and overall ride feel make this scooter a dream to ride. That said, there is an interesting advantage to KLIMA over its older brother, the Burn-E. The Burn-E can feel sluggish when handling due to its weight and size, but the KLIMA, with its lower weight, smaller wheels, sine wave controllers, and smaller dimensions, means that speed and handling are more precise and responsive.
The throttle response and acceleration can make or break the riding experience, and they got it right on the KLIMA. The throttle on this scooter is a thumb throttle but with a horizontal actuating style that differs from the vertical actuating one that’s commonly found on budget-friendly models. It still has the infamous dead zone at the beginning of travel, but it is still more intuitive for most riders than a trigger throttle and provides better control over acceleration than the other styles of thumb throttle.
Don’t be too put off by the dead zone-it may take some getting used to, but with a little time and practice, it’s likely you won’t even notice it anymore.
Portability
The KLIMA can fold down into a much more compact size of 51.0 inches by 27.0 inches by 24.3 inches, but is still too heavy (79.0 lbs) to be considered completely portable. However, it’s somewhat more manageable than its bigger NAMI counterparts, which weigh over 100.0 lb. 79.0 lbs isn’t light and may be too unwieldy to carry in one hand, but it’s possible to lift it with two hands for short distances, such as into a car trunk or up a few step.
NAMI, however, missed an opportunity to improve ease of carrying/transportation by not including a deck latch to secure the handlebars when the scooter is folded. Most riders aren’t going to pick this scooter up by the stem when folded because of its weight, but having the handlebars flopping around awkwardly while loading it into a car or walking up stairs adds an unnecessary layer of difficulty.
To add on to this hassle, the deck tail doesn’t give you a great place to grab the scooter when lifting it either.
Cockpit
The NAMI KLIMA Cockpit is designed with simplicity in mind. The 27.0-inch handlebars are wide enough to house all the controls without any unnecessary clutter, leaving enough space for a comfortable grip. The controls are placed in the same old positions as the previous model, but with some slight updates to the display and the buttons.

Everything is where you’d expect it to be on the left-hand side; you have the rear brake lever and left-hand switch that houses the power button and the instrument panel adjustment buttons (M, +, -), which allows easy access to the modes and settings as well as navigation through the P-setting menu.
On the right side, there’s the thumb throttle, front brake lever, and the right switch that houses the headlight button, turn signals, and horn. However, they made a few adjustments to the headlights and turn switches; you get a blue light when you press the headlight button and green lights when you press the indicator buttons to inform you that they are active.
In the middle of the handlebar is a large, bright IP65-rated display similar to those found on previous NAMI models but with reduced glare for easier reading in direct sunlight. It provides all relevant information, such as headlight/turn signal status, motor/controller temperature, assisted start mode, cruise control, turbo on/off status, battery status, instantaneous speed readings, average speed readings, mileage counters, and more. That’s more than enough stats.
It’s great that the display’s functionality is similar to previous NAMI models, which means you won’t have to spend a lot of time relearning how to use it. Once you get the hang of it, the display opens up a whole new world of customization options; You can change between five different riding modes, adjust rear and front motor power, set a limit on maximum speed, adjust E-brake power, and enhance Turbo strength.
Additionally, the display exemplifies practicality by featuring a USB port, making charging your device on the go a breeze.
Lights
The NAMI KLIMA electric scooter offers an impressive lighting package that blends form and function. This scooter ensures that you ride with utmost visibility and safety, featuring an ultra-bright headlight, turn signals, brake light, and tail light.
The headlight of the KLIMA has an impressive 2000-lumen ultra-bright light, so you can be sure that it will provide adequate lighting for whatever environment you are riding in. This light is mounted high on the stem of the scooter, allowing you to have a good vantage point when riding at night as well as making you more visible to other cars on the road. But more than just functionality, the headlight adds a touch of signature NAMI design and style to the scooter.

For those who plan on doing more off-roading, there are some more suitable off-road tire options that can be purchased separately. These tires feature thicker sidewalls that offer increased strength for rough terrains and higher knobs for improved grip in mud or sand.
Deck
The Deck on the NAMI KLIMA may not be the largest out there, but it definitely gets the job done. The 18.8-inch by 8.0-inch dimensions give you just enough space to place both your feet for aggressive riding without feeling too crowded while still allowing for some slight leg shifting for balance and control.
Additionally, with a deck ground clearance of 7.0 inches, the scooter sits higher than most, making it less likely to scrape when going over curbs or taking detours into light off-roading trails.
To keep your feet secure on the deck, the KLIMA is covered in grip tape, offering excellent support.
Build Quality
The KLIMA continues NAMI’s trend of a unique, welded, tubular frame scooter that looks effortlessly cool and edgy. Theall-matte black coloring only adds to its mysterious and slightly intimidating aesthetic, making it feel like something straight out of Batman’s Batcave.
But beyond just looking great, the KLIMA is also built to last, with high-quality materials used throughout. Thesingle-piece aircraft-grade aluminum deckis a strong base that can handle the rigors of daily use, and the welds, where necessary, are done with great care and attention to detail.
The locking mechanism of the stem has undergone some changes, and it’s worth noting. The KLIMA now comes with a clamp locking mechanism different from the BURN E’s spinning collar mechanism. Both mechanisms serve the purpose well, but the one on the KLIMA allows for faster folding and unfolding of the scooter.
The stem clamp is a quick-release style, with one large folding leaf that locks the stem collar in place. This larger lever is easy to open and close, providing a secure fit with no wiggle or play.

Moreover, all the cables connecting to the display, throttle, controls, and motors have quick connectors. This makes it super easy to upgrade or replace a part without having to run through lengths of wires or re-wiring everything down. Talk about convenience!
The front and rear fenders do an excellent job of keeping water and mud from splashing up on both the rider and the scooter itself. However, we do have some nitpicky critiques. Although all the NAMI scooters have the two-fender combo on the rear, it seems like a bit of an afterthought. The two fenders don’t fit together naturally, but it’s better to have them than not, especially if you want to stay dry. Also, this style fits NAMI’s aesthetic in a way.
Finally, the rear tail light does feel a bit unfinished and exposed without a cover over the LED strip. Nevertheless, it (also) fits NAMI’s aesthetic perfectly and adds to the rugged, sporty feel that they’re known for.
Safety
The NAMI KLIMA scooter is all about safety, and It’s evident in every aspect of its design. Its motorcycle-grade horn is so loud it could wake the dead, ensuring that others hear you on the road while the lighting profile is bright enough to provide ample visibility during any time of day or night. Texas-based Zooz has made a wildly fun and stunning electric bike in a unique space uncovered by bike companies. If you’ve ever wondered what would happen if you made an electric bike ride like a BMX and a Buick, then you’re not alone. Zooz has done that and much more with the gorgeous Zooz 750 reviewed here. While it’s loads of fun and can be useful sometimes, it doesn’t fit into traditional e-bike categories, except for one, sort of.

The way I used it, the Zooz is a cruiser, above all else. The long seat and the tall handlebars give it a very comfortable riding position. Since the bike has just one speed, and the seat is large and static, any other use for the bike seems secondary. As a cruiser, the Zooz is fantastic. The long seat gives you some options for how to sit and even enables two adults to ride the bike. The short, wide tires provide great comfort to the bike without beingobnoxiously large. The hydraulic disc brakes were nice for carrying two people or trying tricks at the park, but for lightweight cruising, it was simply a welcome bonus. Good brakes never get in the way, FYI.
The Zooz E-Bike as a Fashion Statement
Riding the Zooz is an experience in itself since the general public has yet to be exposed to a bike this unique and good looking. Normally when I’m reviewing a bike, people only stop me to chat if I’m parked and fiddling with a camera. On the Zooz, I was stopped mid-motion being asked, “What is that?” “What’s that bike called?” and “Where did you get that?” I think the unique aspect puts some urgency into their requests. If I ride by too fast, they won’t get a chance again, and they’re probably right. It wasn’t until I got my daughter on the bike that people offered us a bit more space.
I’ve been on some bikes thatI consider good lookingand others thatI consider hideous, but the Zooz is one of few bikes that everyone agrees is gorgeous. Some of that appeal is undoubtedly wrapped in the cruiser feel combined with the care-free emotion that a BMX bike can illicit. The Zooz looks non-threatening and simple, two things thatother bikes don’t have at all.
The Zooz as a BMX Bike
Over the course of the video shoot, I went to the skate park a few days. Late one day, I went alone and saw a man leaning against the fence. He was roughly 30 years old, about 250lbs, wearing a camo coat, contoured sunglasses, a long beard, and agun on his hip. On my first pass around the skatepark, he said, “Nice bike!”
“Thanks.” I said. On my second pass around:
“Where did you get it?” he asked.
“Do you want to ride it?” I asked. He jumped at the chance. I’m glad I offered because that man (I don’t know his name) was great! He went horizontal on the bowl a few times, made some big jumps, skid all over, and tip-toed on the front wheel like he was a BMX Michael Jackson. Later, he told me that he was a BMX enthusiast who used to ride on one wheel for about 3 miles at a time. After having kids he hadn’t had the spare time to ride like he used to some years ago. After the added weight of the bike (and the added weight between teenager and 30 something), he was astounded that he could perform at the level he did. Since the man rode in a more free manner, making use of the whole park at a time, and going for flow/speed, the Zooz kept up and kept pumping. With the throttle in hand, the rider is more free to use both extra speed and extra attention to plan a route and execute fully.
If you have a good eye, you may have noticed that two people were riding the Zooz during the skate park portion of the video. The camo sleeves belong to the stranger, but Mason has a similar story. Mason was a hobbyist BMX rider some 10 years ago and has enjoyed riding electric bikes for fun and commuting ever since. Mason’s penchant was more in the vert category, where the Zooz somewhat fell short on account of weight. Opening up to the whole park, Mason likewise felt freer to explore the space. Even in our 30’s,father timeslowly invades the parts of our life that are claimed for the young. For myself, Mason, and the BMX stranger, the Zooz allows a small part of that territory back.
Zooz as a daily driver
The Zooz bike can be a commuter, or daily driver, if you’re committed to it. There areuniversal fendersthat fit the front fork, that’s pretty simple. However, there are no provisions for integrated lights (as of yet), and I don’t think a rear rack is compatible at all. Chances are no one will notice yourbackpackorspare lights, since they will be looking at the bike. The range on the bike is decent, on account of the better-than-average battery size, but if you’re like me, it will be hampered by the urge to use full throttle. You’ll still see around 20 miles of range this way, which fits me in the Salt Lake valley just fine.
What’s Missing from the Zooz?
Right now, Zoozhas three models, all based on motor size: the 250w, 750w, and 1000w. More than likely the 250w is made for European countries, the 750w for places that pretend to enforce E-Bike laws, and the 1000w is for places that don’t pretend. In my opinion, the 750w and 1000w bikes would benefit from a torque based pedal assist. Since the 250w bike is made for Europe, the cadence pedal assist acts like a throttle and gives a laid-back cruise to our friends in the old-world. That’s great. In less-restrictive countries, we already have a throttle, and the addition of a torque sensor would make the single speed pedaling much more useful. As it stands, I would start the bike using the throttle, and just settle in. The pedals became a quaint out-of-date fashion piece, like a rotary phone ora gas car.
All In All
I had a blast on the$2k 750w bike. I think it was great for the cruising focus the bike has. If I planned on hitting the park a bit more or tackling big hills on the regular, I would opt for the 1000w. Once the vaccine starts reaching my demographic, I would definitely choose the Zooz bike as my fly ride to pull up at a gathering. No other bike is as inviting, alluring or care-free as the Zooz. The Zooz is like a “dress up” pair ofJordans,Chucks,Superstars, orVans.

How Powerful is the VSETT 10+ Electric Scooter?

You never know what you are going to get with stated specs, until you get a chance to ride them. I have ridden scooters that state huge numbers, but once you ride them the experience is lackluster. The VSETT 10+ in dual motors and sport mode is an exhilarating experience.
We had a chance to meet up with YouTuber Ginger on Wheels during our visit and see him race the VSETT 10+ against aWolf Warrior 11+. The result: the new VSETT 10+ smoked the Wolf Warrior 11+ electric scooter.
Despite Ginger on Wheels weighing in over 30 pounds more than the competition, Ginger on Wheels still pulled away on the VSETT 10+.
What impressed me the most about the VSETT line, is the instant torque on all their scooters. The top end picks up speed extremely fast in single or dual motors. While single motor mode is sluggish on the ZERO 10X electric scooter I didn’t notice that on the VSETT 10+
VSETT 10+ E-scooter Ride Quality and Ergonomics Make for a Comfortable Ride
Sometimes riding on electric scooters for a long period can be painful on the body. Shocks can be so stiff that your body takes a lot of the vibration. Decks can be too small making you feel cramped after long rides because you cannot shift around the deck.
I had a chance to ride the VSETT 10+ on a long group ride with the Portland PEV Group and never felt uncomfortable except for the wet cold air blowing against my skin as I raced comfortably down streets on a chilly winter night.
The rear kick plate is strong, and I kept my rear foot there while riding the VSETT 10+. Sometimes rear kick plates can be at an awkward angle that can be uncomfortable if used for long periods of time. This was not the case with the VSETT 10+.
The deck size on the VSETT 10+ is slightly smaller than the deck size on the ZERO 10X measuring 20” by 8” where theZERO 10Xis 21” by 9”. However, the way the tapered rear kick plate is designed on the VSETT 10+ the deck feels larger than theZERO 10X. I found the 10+ to be one of the more comfortable scooters I have ridden.
VSETT 10+ Electric Scooter Locking Mechanism Eliminates Stem Wobble
The achilles heal to theZERO 10Xis the stem and locking mechanism. The ZERO 10X stem can become creaky and you almost always have a little stem wobble. The new stem design and locking mechanism on the VSETT 10+ is incredible and instills confidence.
The locking mechanism has three safety features to ensure it does not fail when you are riding. You have the huge locking clamp, a spring-loaded safety pin and a threaded lock. The design is similar to the Rion electric scooter but with some obvious additions and improvements.
The Rion e-scooter has the huge locking clamp which just uses a Velcro strap to ensure it does not fail. VSETT e-scooter added a spring-loaded safety pin and a threaded lock. VSETT also improved the tubular stem by making it a tubular stem with a pentagon shape encasing to make the stem more durable.
The VSETT 10+ Electric Scooter is Very Nimble and Fun to Ride
I love riding the ZERO 10X electric scooter through small mountain bike courses because it is so nimble. I did not get a chance to ride the 10+ through a mountain bike course because it was very wet and muddy for much of the time we had the scooter for testing.
The VSETT 10+ has a similar nimble feel to the ZERO 10X, that I could see myself loving it on small jumps and single tracks.
I rode the VSETT 10+ on the wet and slushy streets of Vancouver, Washington and through the pothole ridden streets of downtown Portland in rainy conditions. Despite the wet winter cold, the VSETT 10+ performed wonderfully.
The VSETT 10+ E-scooter Design and Color Stands Out
The VSETT 10+ black and yellow colors along with the angular lines, gets a lot of compliments. I have seen a lot of comments on the scooter forums that they love the way the VSETT 10+ looks.
I rode the VSETT 10+ on the group ride and a lot of people mentioned to me that they loved the color and they thought it looked unique. The yellow accents pop from the mostly black body.
I like the way it looked in pictures but getting to see it in person is even better. There was a lot of thought into the design and the lines look great.

What Kind of Suspension/Shocks Does the VSETT 10+ Come With?
The VSETT 10+ does not come with EXA Form 290 Shocks.
Early pictures of the VSETT 10+ showed the scooter had EXA Form 290 shocks. Unfortunately, they have put very similar shocks on it that were on the ZERO 10X. However, they have made the shocks a more standard size making it easy to swap them out for the shocks of your choice.
The admin for Electric Scooter Evolution and The Legendary ZERO 11X Facebook Groups, Matt Boggs, confirmed that the front shock on the 10+ is 125mm and the rear is 165 mm.
Both of those sizes are pretty standard so it should not be too hard to exchange them out and it will not impact the way the height of the scooter sits. On the ZERO 10X, the front shock was 135mm making it hard to replace and keep the same profile.
When Folded, the VSETT 10+ E-Scooter Lock for Easier Carrying But…
I love that the hook on the top of the stem can be used to lock the scooter into the kick plate when folded making it nice for carrying up stairs or into a vehicle. However, if you do not keep tension on the scooter as you are lifting it can become unhooked.
There is almost no risk of it becoming unhooked while carrying. Just make sure to hold tension on the stem when locked to ensure it doesn’t slide out on you.
This is a negative to the scooter but it is much easier to carry the 10+ than the ZERO 10X. With a little practice, you will learn the best way to carry it without having issues.
VSETT 10+ E-Scooter Deck is Made of Silicone
Silicone decks are easy to clean but look dirty fast.
I have a love/hate relationship with silicone decks. I love how easy silicone decks are to clean. However, I hate that silicone decks will immediately get dirty as soon as you step on a clean one.
Grip tape decks are a pain to clean but they don’t look as dirty after rides. If you don’t like the look of a dirty deck and hate cleaning a silicone deck constantly, you can always swap it out for grip tape. It’s a trade off on what is better and it just depends on personal preference.
The VSETT 10+ E-Scooter Light Could be Brighter and Positioned Higher
I expect most scooter lights to be awful. The only three scooters to me that have a bright enough light for night riding is theKaabo Wolf King,Kaabo Wolf Warrior, andCurrus Panther. Now that I have ridden theVSETT 11+with the huge light, I will be adding that to the list as well.
With the 10+, the light is actually brighter than most electric scooters but I still find it to be insufficient. Our group ride was at night and the 10+ light did pretty well but I like my scooter lights higher off the ground and a bit stronger.
There have been a lot of comments about the light moving up and down since the light is on the fender. I never found the light bouncing around cruising around at night to be a distraction.
If I was doing off-roading at night I could see this being an issue but I think most people would be off-roading during the day.
I think most people who do a lot of night riding are going to want to find a better light to use and mount on the handlebars.

None of the previousZERO scootershad turn signals. Now all of the VSETT scooters have turn signals. They buttons are sleekly put on the handlebar grips and are easy to use.
Hit the turn signal button and they turn on for 20 seconds and turn off by themselves. They are much more bright than theEMOVE Cruiserturn signal indicators but still are not perfect. The turn signals would be tough to see during the day and they are pretty low to the ground.
Turn signals really should be higher for the public to see but it would be hard to do that on a scooter. There are options to add a light to your helmet that has a wireless control module if you are really worried about needing effective turn signal indicators.

The whole VSETT lines uses a revolutionary NFC card reader to unlock the scooter instead of your traditional keyed entry. I have seen a lot of people refer to it as an RFID which is very similiar technology, but you can technically program your phone to read NFC cards and emit an NFC signal.
We were able to figure out how to read the cards from our phone but not how to emit it to unlock the scooter. It is really awesome technology and I’m sure someone smarter than us could figure out how to user their phone to unlock it.
There is also a volt reader right below the NFC card reader which gives riders a better gauge of their battery charge level.
The Curved Handlebars on the VSETT 10+ E-scooter are Collapsible
The handlebars on the VSETT 10+ are collapsible making it great for portability. When you get into the high powered scooters, there are not a lot that have collapsible handlebars.
Normally collapsible handlebars are straight. On the VSETT 10+ the handle bars are curved which makes for a more enjoyable ride experience and when folded all the brake levers and throttle display sit tuck away more nicely.
Some people worry about stability at high speeds and having collapsible handlebars fail on them. If you are worried about handlebars failing on you, you could easily swap it out for a solid handlebar with the design of the VSETT 10+.
The grips do have the turn signal indicators built into them so you would want to keep the same grips unless you rewire a turn signal indicator switch.
VSETT 10+ E-scooter Kick Plate Handle Makes Lifting and Moving Around Much Easier
They added a handle on the kick plate to make it easier to lift and move around the scooter. I never had issues just grabbing the kick plate of the ZERO 10X to move the scooter, but the addition of the handle just shows you how much thought was put into the design of the VSETT 10+.
VSETT 10+ Charging Ports are Located on the top of the Deck
The charging ports are located on the top and front of the deck on all of the VSETT scooters. The location of charge ports has caused much controversy among the scooter groups. I guessed the change was due to gravity and wear of the charge port covers coming off the side and bottom charge ports, but there’s even more to it.
After speaking with the shop manager at REV Rides, Tyler, I found out that damaged charge ports was a common thing and that they are a pain to replace. A lot of people will crash or brush the side of the scooter against a curb, causing the charge port to break, shoot sparks, and not fit a charger. If the charge port brakes, you have to fish wire through the side panel and do some soldering.
The common person will not be able to replace the charge port so they will have to ship the unit back to the distributor or find a local repair shop. So, with the VSETT they designed the charge ports on the top front of the deck to keep it more protected.
A lot of people are worried about water filling up in the charge port, but as long as you keep the port covered you should never have to worry about it filling up with water.
We did lots of test in very wet conditions and never found water built up around the charge ports because the ports are protected from water by the base of the stem.
People are also worried about kicking the charge port covers off but you can always buycharge port coversthat screw on to resolve that issue.
In terms of foot positioning, we found that on rare occasions our feet would encroach near the charging ports but most of the time, the tips of our shoes rarely got closer than within an inch from the charge ports.
The images below show where the charge ports are positioned on the VSETT 10+ deck as well as some examples of damaged side charge ports on other scooter models. The last image shows the more durable screw on charge port covers available atREVrides.
Upgraded QS-S4 Throttle Display on VSETT 10+ which looks like the EY3 display
VSETT upgraded the QS-S4 display to be enclosed and solve a major failure point of the previous QS-S4 displays. There used to be a magnet that would come out of the QS-S4 displays used on other scooter models and if you put it back in wrong, it could get stuck on full throttle. REV Rides did fix this issue by 3D printing an insert to prevent the battery from falling out.
The new display is fully enclosed so it should stop the issue of having the magnet fall out. They made the new display to look like the Minimotors EY3 display, which has made a lot of scooter enthusiasts upset. I do prefer the Minimotors EY3 display over the QS-S4 but still found the throttle to perform well.
The one pro to the display not being a Minimotors EY3 display is it is cheaper to replace. However, there is more of a failure rate in the QS-S4 displays. You can also switch it out to the EY3 if you are unhappy with the QS-S4 display.
What is Sport Mode on the VSETT Electric Scooter?
Sport Mode gives you Two Minutes of Increased Power!
When activating sport mode on the VSETT, you will see the display show a S. Sport mode gives you increased power for two minutes.
When your two minutes are through you can still ride but you’ll have to wait 5 more minutes before activating Sport mode again. The purpose of limiting the time in sport mode, is to prevent the controller from overheating and burning out.
I know a lot of people have said they were unhappy about the sport mode limiting it to two minutes, but I found it to be a non issue. There is still plenty of power on the VSETT 10+ when not in sport mode and you can still hit top speeds. It’s nice to have a little extra boost when racing friends and not have to worry about your controller overheating.
Very seldomly are you going to find a situation where you are riding more than 2 minutes at full sport mode on the VSETT 10+. The VSETT 10+ picks up speeds very fast in sport mode and I wouldn’t want to take a hard turn at max power.
So unless you have a long straight away with no stops, I don’t see the issue with it limiting the sport mode to 2 minutes.
I believe the sport mode gives you an increased power of 5 amps for the two minutes you activate it. I have reached out to VSETT to confirm this and will update the blog as soon as I receive the answer.
Upgraded Buttons for the Dual Motor, Sport, and Horn
I love the new sleek design for the buttons. The buttons have a metal casing instead of cheap black plastic. The buttons are round and light up instead of those cheap plastic squares.
The overall look is way more aesthetically pleasing than the previous buttons that most electric scooters use. The buttons press in smoothly and you can tell when you are in dual motors instead of guessing.
I’m still blown away at the previous eco/turbo mode buttons being flipped with the single/dual motor button. (This won’t make sense to some but to those who know, they know it is very weird finding on a lot of high powered scooters. I’m glad VSETT fixed this)
An Electronic Horn that is good for Pedestrians but Worthless for Cars
On the VSETT 10+ there is an electronic horn that makes a high pitched noise that would work for pedestrians. It’s pretty much the equivalent of a loud text message alert and the VSETT horn would be next to impossible to hear from cars unless their windows are open.
The high pitched noise also freaks out dogs so I would just audibly let people know you are on their left or right if they are walking a dog.
VSETT 10+ has an Upgraded Kickstand Compared to the ZERO 10X
I am so glad they upgraded the kickstand on the VSETT 10+. The previous kickstand on the ZERO 10X was so tiny compared to the scooter and would have issues holding it up. The new kickstand is strong and sleek and looks like it goes with the scooter.
VSETT Safety Feature: Lockout of Turning Radius to Prevent Accidents
The ZERO scooters have a 360 degree range on the turning. You will never need it so it was unnecessary but it could cause you to have an accident. If you ever turned the steering column 90 degrees while moving it would lock out the scooter throw you from it.
The new VSETT scooters limit your turning radius to prevent a 90 degree lockout. It also helps prevent the cables from being pulled out of the controller or brakes.
What Kind of Brakes does the VSETT 10+ Electric Scooter Have?
The VSETT 10+ has Nutt hydraulic brakes which I find are way superior to zoom brakes that you see on theZERO 10X. Zoom brakes work fine but they are very sensitive and give you that abrubt braking.
Nutt brakes seem smoother to the touch but have very strong braking and you can pull the full brake lever back without feeling like you are going to get thrown off.
What is the VSETT Electric Scooter IP rating?
The VSETT scooters have a IP44 rating. A product that has a rating of IP44 means that it is protected against solid objects that are bigger than 1mm and water splashing from all directions. We rode the VSETT scooters through some pretty wet conditions and never ran into issues.
However, you should always tread lightly when using a scooter around water. If you have any body damage it can cause water to enter the housing of the battery and controller. We do not know of any distributors that warranty scooters for water damage.
Overall thoughts on the VSETT 10+ Electric Scooter
I love the VSETT 10+. The scooter is not perfect but many improvements were made from theZERO 10Xand the VSETT 10+ is one of the most aesthetically pleasing electric scooters I have ever seen.

When will E scooter be legal in the UK?Man Firth ElectricAcross the UK, e-scooter trials are taking place to gather data and inform the government’s decision-making. This article takes a closer look at safety, current regulations, and what the government has said so far about their plans.
1. E-scooter trials
Whilst it is legal to buy and sell e-scooters, there are limitations on where they can be used. Retailers are obliged to ensure that consumers are given sufficient information when purchasing an e-scooter and are not misled. It is lawful to use e-scooters on private land with the landowner’s permission.
At present,e-scooters fall within the legal definition of a motor vehicle. This means they would need to comply with the requirements motor vehicles must meet in order to be allowed to drive on roads, including insurance; technical standards; payment of vehicle tax, licensing and registration; driver testing and licensing; and the use of relevant safety equipment. E‑scooters do not meet these requirements. It is also illegal to use them in spaces set aside for pedestrians, cyclists or horse-riders, including pavements and cycle lanes. Anyone found committing these offences could be prosecuted and receive a penalty ranging from a fine to imprisonment. The UK laws that apply to these criminal offences are the Road Traffic Act 1988 and the Highway Act 1835. The exception to this is whene-scooters are rented as part of an official trial.
As motor vehicles having fewer than 4 wheels and weighing less than 410 kg unladen, e-scooters are classed as motorcycles as defined in Section 185 of the Road Traffic Act 1988 and, because of their low speed, within the subclass of moped. This means that e-scooters have to abide by the same road traffic legislation as mopeds and motorcycles.
The Electric Scooter Trials and Traffic Signs (Coronavirus) Regulations and General Directions 2020 (SI 2020/663) were introduced to allow the e-scooter trials to take place. The regulations remove or relax requirements for rental e-scooters being used in a permitted trial area, in a way which is proportionate to the vehicle type, to enable trials to take place on public roads.
The Traffic Signs (Coronavirus) (Amendment) (England) Regulations 2021 (SI 2021/75) further refined the application of the TSRGD to e-scooters being used in a trial to clarify where e-scooters are permitted for use within defined trial areas.
There are over 30 areas across the UK involved in the trials, including Bournemouth and Poole, Derby, Liverpool, Newcastle, and certain London boroughs. In these trial areas, it is legal for rental, but not privately owned, e-scooters to be used on roads (excluding motorways) and in cycle lanes, but not on pavements. There are several requirements for riders, including holding a driving licence. Government guidance states that safety equipment such as helmets should be worn but this is not a legal requirement. The speed of the e-scooters is limited to 15.5 miles per hour and they must have automatic lights.
Micromobility vehicles such as e-scooters are extremely difficult for blind and partially sighted people to see, and operate quietly which also makes them difficult to hear. It may not always be obvious to someone using a micromobility vehicle that they are approaching a pedestrian with sight loss. The difficulties in these two groups detecting one another make interactions between the two potentially dangerous.
Many of the fires we are seeing involve batteries which have been sourced on the internet, which may not meet the correct safety standards. We know that lithium-ion batteries are susceptible to failure if incorrect chargers are used.
Parliament’s own fire risk management teamrequires that e-bikes, e-scooters and any detachable battery packs are not brought into parliamentary buildings, but remain stored in racks outside due to potential fire risk.
3. Planned legislation
Thetransport secretary told the House of Commons Transport Committeeon 27 April 2022 that the government planned to introduce legislation to allow the government to regulate e-scooters in the 2022–23 session. The government would then be able to stipulate that all e-scooters sold met certain standards concerning speed, power and lights, among other things. He said the government wanted to “crack down on the private market and make it illegal to sell e-scooters which don’t meet the regulatory standards” the government plans to bring in.
During the committee hearing, Simon Jupp (Conservative MP for East Devon) argued that the use of e-scooters had led to many collisions and “caused problems on the streets of this country”. Mr Shapps said that once the standards for privately owned e-scooters had been set, the government could then decide how e-scooters should be used.
This follows ambitions the government set for the UK to become a global leader in transport innovation in thegovernment’s ‘Future of mobility: Urban strategy’, published in March 2019. As part of this strategy, the government committed to conduct a regulatory review of micromobility in the UK. It said it would also consider testing options to enable future trials of micromobility vehicles to take place. Micromobility refers to the use of small mobility devices, designed to carry one or two people, such as e-scooters.
Speaking for the opposition in a House of Lords debate in January 2022,Lord Rosser said that e-scooters “could have much to offer”as they could provide a “safe, relatively cheap and environmentally friendly method of transport”. He argued, however, that the government needed to ensure that there were “relevant and appropriate regulations in place to address the safety concerns over the use of e-scooters if their general use is to be given the go-ahead”.
In January 2020, the Department for Transport commissioned Kantar’s public division to carry out a nationally representative survey of public attitudes and behaviours in relation to e-scooters. Following 4,046 surveys,Kantar’s January 2021 summary report, ‘Perceptions of current and future e-scooter use in the UK’, stated that nine percent of respondents were likely to buy an e-scooter if they were legalised and prices reduced. Additionally, 15% were reported to be likely to hire an e-scooter in a town or city centre in the UK.
However, others have been more cautious.An October 2021 Pacts report on ‘The safety of private e-scooters in the UK’said it was essential to understand the safety of e-scooters before the legislation is changed. It suggested that the evaluation of the government’s trials of rental e-scooters alone was not enough.

Nanrobot LS7+ is one of the most powerful electric scooters you can find on the market. It’s adual-motor electric scooterthat has a total power of 4,800W. So each wheel has a 2,400-watt motor inside of it.
Those powerful motors make the scooter scary fast. It can reach a top speed of 58 mph. There are not many scooters with a better top speed (only some Rion, Dualtron, and Kaabo scooters).
Acceleration is also amazingly sharp. It takes just 3.8 seconds to accelerate from 0-30 mph. It is not super tourqueye but more controlled.
For reaching its top speed, it takes a little bit over 11 seconds. So not bad at all.
Hill Climbing
Powerful dual motors combined with amazing torque make the LS7 scooter an excellent hill-climber.
It’s hard to find a hill that this Nanrobot scooter can not climb.
Battery and Range

Nanrobot LS7+ comes with a high-quality battery that has an energy capacity of 2,400Wh.
When using dual-motor and eco-mode settings, we managed to get 37 miles of range. It’s probably realistic to get over 50 miles if you use a single-motor setting with the lowest gear.
The scooter comes with one standard charger. It takes about 10 hours to get a full charge with it. However, LS7+ has 2 charging ports. So, if you another charger you can get the scooter charged with 5 hours.
Brakes
Brakes are definitely one of the highlights of this electric scooter.
Nanrobot LS7+ comes with Nutt hydraulic brakes, which are truly amazing. Nutt hydraulic brakes are one of the most reliable braking systems you can find on an electric scooter. We have never heard anyone who has any complaints against brakes made by Nutt.
Hydraulic brakes accompanied with 160mm discs are very smooth. It provides you the great stopping power and you can feel safe when riding really fast.
Suspensions
Suspensions are another strong part of this scooter.
It has hydraulic c-type suspensions similar to its smaller brotherNanrobot D6+.
These suspensions are perfect on rough terrain. Even on the roughest surface, the suspension system makes the ride very smooth. You will definitely enjoy the quality of this suspension system.
Steering Damper
Nanrobot LS7+ has a nice extra feature, which we have not seen before – a steering damper. I would say that this feature is a must-have on such off-road scooters.
It removes the wobbling when riding really fast. When I was riding with Nanrobot D6+, I remembera little wobbling on the steering wheel. It’s really great that Nanrobot has made this improvement for LS7+.
Thanks to the steering damper, you can even ride with one hand. Although I wouldn’t recommend doing that.
Nanrobot LS7+ Design And Features
Portability
We would rather not call this electric scooter very portable.
Nanrobot LS7+ is huge scooter. It weighs 110 lbs (52 kg), which is very similar toKaabo Wolf WarriororDualtron Thunder. So, this scooter is not very comfortable to carry around unless you are Hulk or something.
It doesn’t fit into the trunk of a regular sedan, so you need to pull down the back seat or have a bigger car.
Cockpit
Nanrobot LS7+ features a new color display. It is much wider and bigger than the standard 2-inch screens you can see on most of the scooters.
All other components on the handlebar are also top-quality and well-positioned.
Wheels and Tires
This Nanrobot scooter comes with 11″ off-road tires. These tires are perfect when off-roading but when riding on smooth asphalt, they are very noisy.
If you are going to use LS7+ only on city streets, I would recommend changing to road tires. However, these 11-inch tires are surely more comfortable on rough terrain than 10-inch tires.
Deck
The riding experience goes into the next level with this deck. The deck of LS7+ is just huge. It is really wide and also the length is much bigger than most other scooters. Since the deck is so long, you don’t need to use the footrest most of the time.
For big guys, this massive deck is definitely a big advantage.

LS7+ scooter has outstanding lights. Front and tail LED lights are bright enough to safely ride in the night. Additionally, it features lighting on the stem and deck. You can switch between different colors and lighting modes. You will definitely be noticed.
Ride Quality
Nanrobot LS7+ is well-balanced and riding with it is very luxurious.
It has a sharp acceleration and excellent handling. You can get up basically every hill without losing much speed.
Big off-road tires accompanied by great suspensions provide you a smooth riding. On all kinds of terrains.
Comparisons
Nanrobot LS7+ vs D6+
Both are powerful dual motor electric scooters ideal foroff-road riding. However, LS7+ is even more than 2 times more powerful. Also, LS7+ has a much bigger battery and a little bit bigger wheels.
Probably it won’t come as a surprise that LS7+ is also much more expensive.
Both are extremely powerful dual-motor electric scooters.
When comparing the maximum range provided by manufacturers we see a huge difference in favor of Dualtron. I doubt that there is so much difference because both scooters have batteries with similar energy capacities and similar motor power.
We never know in what conditions they test the maximum range. The more realistic range of Dualtron Thunder is about 50 miles. So these two are very similar in this category too.
Nanrobot is a little bit lighter but at the same time, it withstands more payload.
Overall these two are quite equal. It is more of a personal preference when deciding which one to choose.

This new scooter from Nanrobot is a beast. It has great speed, amazing acceleration, and solid mileage. Great speed is thanks to powerful dual motors and huge 60V 40Ah battery delivers an extensive range.
Also, it’s great to see that this scooter has many improvements like the steering damper.

*The name ‘Viper’ was the Burn-e’s original moniker – a callback to its tubular frame, which is reminiscent of a snake ready to strike. Who is it Best For?
Will the NAMI Burn-e Viper Be a Good Fit For You?
You can divide electric scooters up into five broad classifications.
There’s your average budget scooter, such as those made byXiaomi, Riley, and
Then, there’s your typical commuter scooter. This class includes models such as the Apollo City, Hiley x9s, and EMOVE Cruiser
Beyond this, you have performance scooters. Here we’re talking models that pack a punch of power, capable of propelling you up to speeds of 30-40 mph. Examples of these scooters include the Hiley Tiger 8/ 9, Apollo Pro & Vsett 9
Next, we make our way up to the heavy-hitting, tarmac-scorching capabilities of high-performance scooters like the Kaabo Wolf Warrior and VSETT 10+. These are capable of hitting 40-50 mph.
Fifth and final, there is themost extreme category – ultra-performance scooters. This set of scooters includes models comfortable with speeds of 50 mph and beyond, so – naturally – it’s limited to just a small bunch. The big names? With that in mind, the Viper is accessible to all riders. I still wouldn’t recommend it to those completely new to scooters, though – the gulf between entry-level and ultra-performance is still far too wide. It’s also not for small riders (the frame is way bigger in real life than it looks in pictures). But for everyone else – providing you have the confidence, and the budget – the Viper should be a great fit…
…just don’t underestimate it.

Could I give this scooter a 9.5, without recommending it as having good value for money?
Of course not – so trust me when I say thatthe Viper is worth even penny. Of course, it’s not cheap – at fifty pounds shy of four thousand pounds, it’s as expensive as a car (not to mention as powerful as one).
So what do you get for your money, exactly?
Well, the Viper’s feature set is unparalleled across the electric scooter industry. With a range of riding modes, a pair of exclusively designed Sine Wave controllers, and the option to customize, you absolutely get what you pay for. Topping its closest competitors in the crucial metrics of acceleration and range (and, might I add, comprehensively so), the Viper has come, seen, and conquered the ultra-performance scooter market.
So yes – this one’s worth breaking the bank for.
Design
Handlebars
Given the NAMI Burn-e’s hulking, imposing frame (which I’ll get to in just a second), I was surprised to note how narrow its handlebars were – particularly in relation to other scooters of its class.
At 24.4 inches wide, the Viper’s handlebars are more than three inches shy of those flaunted by theVSETT 11+(27.5 inches), and also fall just short of those on theWolf Warrior(24.6 inches), as well as the now-discontinuedDualtron X(24.8 inches). Somewhat counter-intuitively, the length of the Viper’s handlebars is also outstripped by scooters with lower specs and fewer features, such as the Zero 10X and Apollo Pro (26.7 inches apiece), and theVarla Eagle One(25.5 inches).
The reason I mention all this is that – normally, at least – the width of a scooter’s handlebars can affect the levels of handling and comfort a rider enjoys, in addition to the amount of control you feel you have over the scooter. Despite this, the Viper proves to be a highly enjoyable ride, despite the slightly slimmer span of its handlebars.
Plus, what the Viper’s handlebars lack in size, they make up for in the spread of features and functionality they offer. In the centre, you’ll find the Viper’s calculating brain – that is, its industry-leading water-resistant smart display.
From here, you can view your speed and the total distance you’ve travelled, plus a basic visualization of your Viper’s battery life. You can also use this screen to toggle between the Viper’s five riding modes – including the supercharged ‘Turbo’ mode, for extra fun and fried nerves – as well as access a whole bunch of other settings, such as the strength of the Viper’s dual motors, and the intensity of its regenerative brake. But more on that later.
Elsewhere on the Viper’s handlebars, you’ll be able to squeeze its pair of hand-operated hydraulic brakes, and – over to the right-hand side – toot its motorcycle-grade horn.
On this flank, there are buttons that activate the scooter’s turn signals and turn on its 2000 lumen headlight. The thumb throttle is also located here, sitting beneath the right handgrip. To the left-hand side of the Viper’s handlebars, you’ll find another panel of buttons: one turns the scooter on/off, while the others help you select the mode, and tinker with a range of other features.
Finally, the Viper’s handlebars are just… extremely comfortable. With a moulded shape designed to help alleviate the demands on your posture on long journeys – plus a pair of supple ergonomic rubber grips – you’ll enjoy getting the most out of the Viper’s 100 mile maximum range.
Frame
Wow. Just…wow.
This thing is an absolute beast. With a matte-black, industrial design, the NAMI Burn-efeels like it’s stepped straight out of a dystopian movie, and brought a sliver of a dark, brooding future back with it.
With a carbon fibre stem and fierce-looking girders of aviation-grade aluminium fused in a one-piece frame, the Viper has a visual impact that befits its commanding range of features, and industry-leading specs. In fact, it shares a considerable amount of its look and feel with the Dualtron range – particularly the formidable frame of the 66 kg X II.
There’s even something wonderfully sinister about the Viper’s powerful lighting setup. With an uber-bright headlight, turn signals, and strips of lighting – which, embedded into the sides of the Viper’s deck, seem to be imprisoned by the metal bars of the scooter’s frame – you’ll be both impressing and terrifying onlookers when you take this bad boy out after dark.
And, though it’s a little disappointing that there isn’t a range of colours to choose from, I almost think that black is the only palette that would suit the insidious, implacable image the Viper’s frame exudes.
Deck
If you’re imagining the NAMI Burn-e’s deck as – in any way, shape, or form – resembling the slim, narrow platform of aconventional commuter scooter, think again.
This thing is titanic and easily large enough to strike a wide, comfortable stance on– heck, you could probably host a baseball game on this thing. And, it's no wonder the Viper’s deck is this huge – it houses a behemoth 72V 35Ah Panasonic battery.
Adorning the deck’s centre is the NAMI logo (but done in a classy, rather than garish way), flanked by two thin strips of grip tape. While these dual columns of sandpapery-type material do a decent job, I’d still prefer to see the whole deck coated in a grippy surface – whether that’s rubber, silicone, or just grip tape. However, the design NAMI has gone with still does the job – so I’ll give it a pass.
Embedded along each side of Viper’s deck is a strip of LED lighting that also serves as the scooter’s turn signals. At the rear end, the deck raises to form a handle. This allows you to get a strong grip on the scooter when it comes to lifting it but also serves as a kickplate when riding – allowing you to extend your stance, and lean into the ride for extra control and stability at the top speeds. Handy.
Wheels
Arriving out-of-the-box with a pair of 11-inch tubeless tyres,the NAMI Burn-e doesn’t mess around. These things are stunning, super-sized, and – thanks to their air-filled, rather than solid nature – shock absorptive, too.
Though the Viper has been engineered to cope with all kinds of terrain, the tyres it comes with are tailor-made to traverse flatter, more compact urban surfaces. If you plan to use your Viper pretty much exclusively for aggressive dirt tracks and forest trails, I’d recommend purchasing an extra set of knobby, gnarly off-road tyres built for exactly that.
Build Quality & Durability
The NAMI Burn-e hasn’t been designed for top speeds and range only to fall apart when you try and hit them. Nope,this scooter is the real deal, with a high-quality build, design, and components that give even the Dualtron range a run for its money.
Take the Viper’s one-piece aluminium welded frame, for instance. Not only is this material aviation-grade, but it's been heat-treated to help safeguard it from age and wear and tear. The Viper’s stem also deviates from the norms of the electric scooter world, with Michael (the maker) having opted to use carbon fibre, rather than the more standard SCM400 (a kind of carbon chromium alloy steel).
Plus, the aluminium exoskeleton chassis is made up of tubing that has been reinforced with a crossed (x-shaped) aluminium inner that runs through the tubes. This is just one of the features that make the frame unique to the scooter.
With polished stainless steel relied on for some of the Viper’s more technical moving parts – such as its folding mechanism –the Viper doesn’t only offer up a dynamic design, but cuts a thoroughly durable, dependable figure, too.
The only areas for improvement are:
If the scooter was fitted with a steering damper. Similar to that on Dualtron’s top models, a steering damper would increase control at high speeds.
If the exposed wiring at the front of the deck/underside of the neck was encased and tucked away it would be more protected.
Considering everything this scooter has to offer, these are minor improvements in the bigger picture. Think of them as more value-added improvements.
Weight & Load
The scooters I outlined in the ‘ultra-performance’ category tend to vary wildly in terms of the features they offer. One area in which they don’t differ all that much, however, is how much they weigh.
As you can see, most of the scooters in the Burn-e’s bracket weigh a very similar amount. The only real outlier is the earth-shaking bulk of the Dualtron X II, which – at 66 kg – doesn’t tip the scales, but obliterates them.
Against this backdrop, weight probably isn’t going to be a deciding factor when it comes to picking the Burn-e over the Dualtron Storm, Wolf Warrior, or Wolf King. They’re all massively heavy, so what difference is one or two kilograms going to make?
Since the release of the scooter, Michael has, however, been working on new prototypes of the chassis which weigh just 2.8 kg vs the 5.8 kg that the chassis currently weighs. So, keep your eyes peeled for a potential lighter model in the future.
The Viper can support a total rider weight of up to 150 kg. This puts it on a par with many a laudable scooter in the industry, including the Wolf Warrior, Apollo Pro 60V Ludicrous, and more.
The only scooters in our database to outrank the 150 kg of the Viper are the EMOVE Cruiser (160 kg), andKaabo’s Wolf King(181 kg).
Folding & Portability
There are no folding handlebars on the NAMI Burn-e. This is one area where, perhaps, some Dualtron scooters outclass it – but the Viper still has plenty to offer in the way of folding functionality.
The Viperfolds at the base of the stem via a brand-new, patented lock taper folding mechanism. Surprisingly, it is extremely easy to use. You simply loosen the quick release lever, spin the mechanism until it is no longer threaded, and then you can fold the stem.
If there’s a caveat I can add to this section, it’s the extent to which the Viper can truly be called ‘portable’. At 46.7 kg, it’s one of the heaviest electric scooters money can buy, and closer to the weight of a light moped than aconventional commuter scooter(the maximum weight of which I place at around 19 kg).
Even Michael said that the Burn-e has been overbuilt and originally thought it would be lighter.
In other words, it’s unlikely you’ll be purchasing the Viper to shuttle you to and from the office on weekdays, or as a ‘last mile’ commuter solution – it doesn’t exactly lend itself to being hauled up flights of stairs, being packed into lifts, or lifted on and off trains or buses. However, its compact nature when folded does mean that the Viper can be transported in the boot of cars (with the back seats laid down), or packed tidily away in your garage.
And to clear any confusion, when I say its “compact nature”, I am comparing it to theWolf KingandWarrior, both of which are difficult to fold and get longer when collapsed. For reference, when folded, both wolf models measure as long as a small person if they were to lay down (equivalent to 59 inches or 4 ft 9).
Assembly
The NAMI Burn-e comes pretty much fully assembled right out of the box. You’ll just have to fix the stem in place, and use the included bank of Allen wrenches to mount – and then tighten – the handlebars. If in doubt, follow the instructions in the manual that arrives with the box – you can’t go wrong.
One other noteworthy thing when it comes to the Viper’s packaging is thatit eschews the typically-used Styrofoam, in favour of thick corrugated cardboard. This is great for several reasons, but most prominently in terms of sustainability – Styrofoam is an absolute pain to recycle, after all.
The Viper’s robust cardboard packaging also makes less mess when you’re unboxing it. If you’ve ever had to deal with cleaning up a garage full of fragments of white plastic, you will know the struggle (especially with the number of scooters that we review). Yet I must confess, there’s another, much more selfish, reason I love not having to deal with Styrofoam packaging… I’ll no longer have to grit my teeth and cringe painfully as it makes that terrible squeaking sound.
Ride Quality
Is the NAMI Burn-e Comfortable to Ride?
In a nutshell, yes– the Burn-e is as comfortable to ride as they come.
As I’ll get to shortly in the ‘Performance and Safety’ section, the Viper’s 165mm hydraulic coil-shocks offer more insulation from the idiosyncrasies of rough surfaces than any other scooter.
What’s more, this suspension is completely adjustable. By tinkering with the rebound settings of the Viper’s KKE hydraulic suspension, you can control the rate at which its coil-over-shocks bounce back from impact. This allows the Viper to tackle pretty much any surface – whether urban or off-road – with the utmost ease.
Of course, we can’t leave out the contributions from the Viper’s enormous 11-inch tubeless tyres, can we? With all the technicalities of those KKE hydraulic coil-shocks hogging the plaudits, it’s easy to overlook how crucial the Viper’s air-filled – rather than solid – tyres are to its overall levels of rider comfort and experience.
Even putting the Viper’s classy suspension setup aside for a moment, it’s easy to see why this thing is so comfortable to ride. With enough room to host a banquet – let alone stand – on, the Viper’s deck is one of the biggest I’ve seen. Plus, with wide handlebars, strong lighting, and top-of-the-shelf braking all adding extra layers of rider confidence into the mix, the Viper isn’t only a comfortable ride – it’s a safe one, too.
What’s more,you can customize the Nami to your exact riding preferences. You either tinker with top-level settings like how fast the acceleration rate is or go as far as to create a customized riding mode that is primed for your environment. For example, if you’re going to beriding in a hilly areayou could change the configuration of the motors to have more power running to the front motor to help pull you up hills as opposed to pushing you up using the rear motor. Then, if you fancy a stint of road racing, you can set both motors with maximum power forthe highest levels of torque and acceleration.
So, let’s see how that pace stacks up against similarly-priced models.
Speed vs Price Comparison
Taking a £1,500 price range with the Viper’s £3,950 in the middle, there are only two other comparable models: the Dualtron Storm, and the Dualtron Ultra II.
Of the three, the Viper has the slowest top speed (at least, that stated by the manufacturer). However –when we dig a little deeper into overall performance – we can see that the Viper has a significantly faster acceleration rate. Since the Viper only loses out speed-wise to the Storm and Ultra II by just 2 mph, the scooter represents the best deal when it comes to the full package – that is, blistering speed, but with a rapid acceleration rate to match.
Speed vs Weight Comparison
Again taking a margin of comparison – but this time applying it to the Viper’s weight, rather than its price – we can compare the scooter’s maximum velocity to the most analogous models on the market. As it turns out, there are three within that 44.2 to 49.2 kg price range – the Dualtron Storm, the Wolf King, and the Wolf Warrior.
Unsurprisingly, the Dualtron Storm’s sensational stacks of speed mean it emerges on top. As for the Burn-e, it shares its top speed with the Wolf King, while easily topping the 50 mph that the Wolf Warrior is capable of.
As I mentioned in the Speed vs Price comparison, the Viper’s strong suit is acceleration. It’s the best accelerator out of all the models here, and –despite not excelling beyond the Storm as far as top speed is concerned – it will still get you to those 60 mph heights quickerthan those scooters will. I’ll unpack why the Viper’s acceleration is so good in the ‘Acceleration’ section up next.
I should note here, though, that – despite not quite matching the Viper when it comes to acceleration, or extra features – theWolf Kingis still a fantastic alternative. Offering the same top speed and better load-bearing capabilities, the King is also easier on your wallet, costing you £1,051 less.
Okay, let’s be real – was a scooter with huge 1500W dual motors, a pair of Sine Wave 50Ah controllers, a Turbo mode (which injects 12% more power for an exhilarating injection of pace), and peak 8400W power output ever going to struggle with acceleration?
The answer, of course, is no – so it doesn’t come as any surprise thatthe Viper isthe king of acceleration.
Of course, that even includes the Viper’s closest competitors. For context, its peak output is a whole 25% greater than the 6640W offered by the Dualtron Storm, and a colossal 56% better than the Wolf Warrior’s 5400W. And, stop the press – it’s even bigger than the Dualtron X II’s 8300W peak output. Remember, that scooter costs just shy of a budget-shattering £5,300 – so this is no small feat.
What these impressive numbers amount to is that the Viper can hit 15 mph 11% faster than the Wolf King and Wolf Warrior, and a whole 29% quicker than the Dualtron Storm. And, as that speed increases, so too does the gulf between the Viper and, well… everybody else.
The Viper hits speeds of 25 mph, for example, 17% faster than the Wolf King, 19% quicker than the Dualtron Storm, and 23% pacier than the Wolf Warrior.

Fast, ruthless, and unstoppable – the Viper has more in common with its namesake than I first thought.
Range
Thanks to what can only be described as an enormous 72V 35Ah Panasonic battery, the NAMI Burn-ecan hit distances of up to a staggering 100 miles off a single charge.
Now, you probably don’t need any additional context to appreciate how incredible a 100 mile range is – but I’m going to give you some anyway. Let’s take a look at how the Viper’s mileage stacks up against its closest rivals when it comes to price and weight.
Mileage vs Price Comparison
As we discovered in the ‘Speed vs Price’ section above, of all the models within £750 on either side of the Viper’s £3,950 price tag, only two emerge as comparable. To be expected we have the same two Dualtron models for this comparison, but things are a little different.
In the Price vs Speed comparison, the Storm and Ultra 2 both beat out the Viper for top speed – but when it comes to mileage, the Viper flips the script. This time,the Viper emerges top of the pile, crushing both Dualtron models.
The key difference here is that the Viper boasts dual 50Ah Sine Wave controllers.By pulling battery power more efficiently the Viper can deliver a longer range.
The Dualtron Storm, by contrast, sports a smaller 72V 31.5Ah LG battery – so, to nobody’s surprise, it ends up bottom of our comparison chart when it comes to mileage.
Mileage vs Weight Comparison
Renewing our 44.2 to 49.2 kg weight bracket from earlier, let’s see how the Viper’s three competitors – the Wolf King, Warrior, and Dualtron Storm – all measure up.
Well,there’s no contest– the Viper, once again, steals the show, laying claim to the longest range (100 miles).
In its weight division, the Viper flaunts 25% more range than the Storm’s 80 miles, and double that of the Wolf King, which closes up the pack.
Ride and Glide – the best place to buy the NAMI Burn-e in the UK – doesn’t advertise the scooter’s hill-climbing capabilities openly. However, I can attest to its ability totackle 35-degree inclines. There’s no hill in the world that this beast can’t climb –it doesn’t even break a sweat on anything up to 20 degrees.
Make no mistake – hill-climbing credentials of this kind are very hard to come by, even in the spec-saturated world of high and ultra-performance electric scooters.
While the Viper’s gradient-gobbling capacity is matched by the Dualtron X II, it blows pretty much all other scooters of its ilk out of the water. That includes the rest of the Dualtron range, all Speedway models, and even names such as the Apollo 60V Ludicrous, a scooter renowned for its hill climbing calibre.
With a pair of adjustable 165mm hydraulic coil-shocks, the NAMI Burn-e has been specifically engineered to provide superlative levels of shock absorption. Like the snake this scooter is named after – whose habitats range from mountains and fields to rainforests and deserts – the Viper can go anywhere.
The Viper’s KKE hydraulic coil-over-shocks also offer rebound adjustment. This type of suspension was originally a motocross invention and has been designed to offer you greater levels of control and comfort while traversing a wide variety of terrain. In brief, it allows you to tinker with how quickly your Viper’s shocks ‘bounce back’.
Despite the shock system, itself, being complex, no other suspension system comes close to how easy and intuitive it is to adjust. Unlike other scooters, no tool (C Spanner/Wrench) is needed.You simply dial in the amount of damping you want. Even new riders will get to grips with it quickly. It is brilliant.
Here’s why it’s so important that the Viper allows you to adjust rebound damping:
You can think of suspension in two facets – compression and rebound. You can’t have one without the other and both rely on each other. Compression damping helps the suspension to absorb bumps as your wheels roll over obstacles and move upwards. Rebound damping, on the other hand, helps the suspension to return to its original position after compression. Ultimately, rebound damping is used to regulate and control the speed at which the shock absorbers bounce back and therefore, is vital for a smooth ride.
So, in the case of the Viper, the hydraulic rebound damping relies on oil moving through a circuit to regulate the speed at which the suspension extends after being compressed. Without the ability to customize it, if your rebound is set to being too low then your expensive electric scooter is going to turn into a glorified pogo stick (i.e. the shock coming out of the shock absorber body will fire out as opposed to being controlled and dampened).
Ultimately, the Viper’s industry-leading suspension has been designed for rider comfort– which it delivers in spades. Its adjustable configuration and the extent to which you can customize it for less reliable terrain make itone of the finest scooter selections for off-road enthusiasts. Just remember your helmet.
One other area that deserves attention is the swingarms which have been forged from aluminium as opposed to being cast. Not only do they have a better surface finish than cast swingarms, but because aluminium forgings show mechanical properties that make their strength-to-weight ratio far superior to that of castings, they are more durable, too.
Braking
While the NAMI Burn-e’s dual hydraulic disc brakes are something we’d certainly expect from an ultra-performance scooter of its ilk, that doesn’t make them any less impressive to appreciate – and to use.
The Viper’s brilliant braking setup – which, to get technical, ismade up of NUTT hydraulic brakes, with 160mm discs – is very sharp and well-calibrated. So much so, that you’ll want to apply only the lightest of touches when it comes to using them. Because applying the brakes cuts the Viper’s formidable motors, it’s likely you’ll end up coming to a stop faster than expected – so keep that in mind.
If the NUTT disc braking setup looks familiar to some of you seasoned ultra-performance scooter enthusiasts out there, that’s because it is. The Viper shares the same braking arrangement with the Dualtron Ultra II – the dedicated scooter foroff-road ridingin Dualtron’s lineup. These brakes are also similar to those on the Storm, although MiniMotors opted to manufacture their own proprietary brake discs for this model.
What this means for the Viper is that – unlike the Storm – it’s easy to upgrade the brakes, should you want to. Magura brakes, for instance (which are some of the most powerful on the market, and tend to outperform those of the NUTT variety in tests, and when it comes to maintenance) can be easily slotted into the Viper.*
The Viper’s hydraulic brakes are also supported by a regenerative brake, which kicks in after you engage the mechanical brakes. Essentially, this tech force-feeds the kinetic energy generated by the stopping process back into the battery – allowing you to not only brake more effectively but also conserve your scooter’s juice to hit its maximum range.
Predictably, there are five strength settings to the Viper’s regenerative brake, and you can toggle between these via the industry-leading interface located at the centre of its handlebars.
Overall,this type of braking system is just about the best you can get. It also demonstrates that the NAMI Burn-e – and its creator, Michael Sha – aren’t solely focussed on speed and distance, but with safety, too.
*In recent interviews with Michael, he explained that we may see Magura brakes on future NAMI models. The only reason why they don't come as standard is that demand for them is out of the roof so Michael can’t get the stock. The earliest availability for these to be put into the production of the scooter would be in 2023.
Charge Time
The NAMI Burn-e arrives with two chargers included.
Plugging them both in simultaneously willget your Viper fully juiced up in around 6 hours, while just one will do the job in 12.
While it’s not a key feature by any means, the location of the charging ports is the best that I’ve seen on any scooter.
Some scooters have their ports located on the side of the deck but these can become malformed and damaged as a result of curb sideswiping. Other scooters place the ports on the top of the deck – usually at the front. This method eliminates curb damage but does mean that they can become exposed to water damage from rainfall. If these types of ports don’t have tight water-proof seals they can be kicked off and ultimately suffer.
The Burn-e, on the other hand, conveniently places its two charging ports on the reinforced plate across the neck of the scooter. Not only does the placement move them out of the way of rogue foot placements but they also have water-proof seals. It’s small details like this that make a big difference.
Extra Features
Industry Leading Interface
As you’ll have seen by now, the NAMI Burn-e isn’t short on ‘wow’ factors. But perhaps the biggest rabbit Michael Sha has pulled out of the hat with the Viper’s design is in the superlative, superbly customizable interface located between the scooter’s handlebars.
Here’s whereyou can view, control, and personalize almost every kind of data point imaginable for your Viper. That includes everything, from the basic stuff – such as speed, riding mode, trip distance, and odometer – all the way to more elaborate insights, which I’ll get to in a hot minute.
Though the device is as big as most iPhones, it’s not a touchscreen. Instead, you’ll toggle your interface’s settings via a small pad of black buttons to the left-hand side of the handlebars. There are four buttons here: a plus sign, a minus sign, an ‘M’, and a power on/off button. By pressing the on/off button, you can begin cycling through the interface’s views, which include:
Odometer (the total distance you’ve travelled on your Burn-e so far)
A G-force readout, which shows you how many G’s you’re generating as you ride (crazy, I know)
Battery voltage
The amount of power your Viper’s using (average power consumption per 10 kilograms)
The respective temperature of the front and rear motor
…and all this just by pressing one button.
Hitting that ‘M’ button toggles between the speed displays. You can view your Viper’s:

You can even use this button to view your Viper’s remaining range and get a sense of how long a ride you have ahead of you.
The plus and minus buttons flip you through the Viper’s quintet of riding modes, allowing you to select between three preset modes, with two ‘blank check’ modes for you to configure yourself. The Viper’s presets can be loosely summarized as follows:
Eco– The Viper’s slowest mode tops out at around 20 mph. Ideal for when you’re still getting used to the full extent of this scooter’s capabilities.
Drive– This mode caps at around 40 mph, and is a good intermediate mode as you start to build up your confidence and ride time on the Viper.
Sport– Calling all speed fiends – this one's for you. This mode will allow you to reach speeds of around 55 mph.
Beyond all this, the Viper also has a range of P settings, which allow you to customize the scooter’s finer points to your personal preferences. The amount you can do here is insane, so I’ll try to be as brief as possible in explaining them all.
NAMI Burn-e: P Settings
To access the Viper’s multitude of P settings, double press the ‘M’ button, then push it once more. Now you can start to customize. Here’s what those ‘P’s mean for you:

You can select the rider mode you want to customize. It is recommended to leave the existing presets alone (Eco, Drive, and Sport), and instead, use the two spare riding modes to configure your preferred settings.
P2
Controls the brightness of the Viper’s central display.
P3
Set the exact window of time after which your Viper will automatically go into standby – you can toggle it to begin sleeping after anywhere between 1 and 30 minutes.
P4
Configures the units used (i.e. speed – mph/kmh, and range – miles/km).
P5
The battery’s voltage (this comes preset at 72, in accordance with the size of the Viper’s battery).
P6
Controls the number of magnets in the Viper’s motors. This comes preset at 30 (the right setting), and I’d recommend not tinkering with this one.
P7
Toggle between start modes. Selecting ‘0’ enables immediate acceleration, allowing you to move away speedily from a standing position. Picking ‘1’ will mean that you’ll have to push off with your foot to get your Viper moving before the motors kick in.
P8
Indicates the Viper’s tyre size. It comes set at 11 inches, which is correct – so I wouldn’t mess with this setting.

Turn the Viper’s speed-regulated cruise control function on or off – I’ll unpack this in greater detail later in the review.

Enables and disables the scooter’s yield information.

Allows you to control how rapidly your scooter accelerates. You can adjust the maximum current of its dual controllers. This enables you to draw more power from the motors. As a note: 60 amps is the peak and you only get it for fast acceleration. The power drawn is also controlled by the temperature of the controllers – when they hit 100° C they drop down and self-regulate.

Set the temperature at which your Viper’s motors switch to ‘Eco’ mode to prevent overheating. It is preset to 110° C.
P13
Lets you set the percentage of battery at which your Viper will automatically go into ‘Eco’ mode.

Create a 4-digit password with which to unlock your scooter.
Advanced P-Settings:
Once you’re in the P-settings menu, double pressing the ‘M’ button gives you access to yet another layer of customizability – the Viper’s advanced P-settings.

P1.1
This allows you to select the degree of acceleration for the rear motor. There are 5 levels of strength that range from slow to fast.
P1.2
Same as P1.1, but for the front motor.
P1.3
The amount of current that can be supplied to the rear motor. Based on a percentage where 100% is the maximum current.

Same as P1.3, but for the front motor.

Customize your top speed. Based on a percentage where 100% is the maximum 60 mph speed.

Toggle the strength of the electric regenerative brake. There are 5 levels of strength that range from soft to hard braking.

The big one. This setting is where you’ll access the Viper’s ‘Turbo’ feature. You can choose from between six levels starting from 0 through to 5. Selecting the latter will give you an exhilarating injection of 12% more power, to hit those tarmac-obliterating top speeds we know the Viper to be capable of. Note: Turbo is controlled by the temperature of the controllers and the percentage of the battery. It will switch off if the controllers are too hot or if the battery is too low. Create Customized Riding Modes Based on Your Preferences
Most scooters tend to have riding modes that have preset thresholds that keep the scooter ticking over at predefined power and speed levels.
Not all scooters, however, allow you to customize these.
The NAMI Burn-e, of course, breaks the mould.In addition to having three preset modes – ’Eco’, ‘Drive’, and ‘Sport’ – you can also create two additional modes.

Two Very Powerful & Exclusively Designed Sine Wave 50Ah Controllers That Control the Acceleration Strength and Power of Each Motor Independently
Oh, boy – there’s nothing like the smell of two powerful Sine Wave 50Ah controllers in the morning.
Like the Viper’s patented lock taper stem folding mechanism, the Sine Wave controllers have been exclusively designed to help the Viper breach new frontiers of performance. What’s really exciting about them, though, is thatthey allow you to take control of each motor, independently from the other.
Simply click your way to setting P-Setting 11. Here, you can set your Viper’s maximum controller current, and tinker with the amount of power you’re able to pull from those formidable dual motors. 60 amps is the peak output, and you’ll only get this with the hardest levels of acceleration.
Of course, you won’t be accessing this amount of power all the time – after all, this is all dependent on the temperature levels of the controllers. If they get too hot, the self-regulating controllers will cool down, and temper the amount of power you’re using accordingly. Cleverly designed, the controllers are positioned outside of the battery component and attached to the base of the frame at the front of the scooter. This allows them to be air-cooled, meaning their placement acts as a heat sink.
Inject 12% More Power With Turbo Mode For Blistering Speed
As a confessed speed freak, this was always going to be one of my favourite features of the NAMI Burn-e.
Much like the ability of the VSETT 10+R and 11+ – which allow you to hit a button for a quick shot of ‘nitrous oxide’, a la the ‘Need for Speed’ video games –the Viper offers you the opportunity to boost your ride’s pace by 12%… for a limited time, at least.
To engage this fast, frenzied feature, simply hold down the plus button for a couple of seconds while in motion, and enjoy. Similar to when you’re in cruise control, a small red motor icon will pop up in the top right corner of the Viper’s screen, to tell you that the feature has been activated.
But what goes up must, of course, come down, and you won’t be able to maintain these dizzying speeds in perpetuity. This feature is, essentially, regulated by the temperature of the controllers, so as soon as they reach a certain heat, it will shut off. Whether you can access that sweet, swish 12% shot of speed will also depend on the level of your battery. If you don’t have enough juice in the tank, this little trick isn’t going to fly – and neither will you.
See How Much G-Force You Experience While Riding
Hit the on/off button several times and the Viper’s screen will flash up with a G-force readout. This feature, which shows how many G’s you’re pulling as you ride, probably isn’t the most indispensable function the Viper offers. However, it’s stilla neat, fun little novelty– and it’s made even more so by the fact that you don’t see it on any other scooters.
Calculate Remaining Miles for Effective Range Management
Unlike other scooters – where you have to rely on a voltmeter or battery bars on a QS-S4/EY3 display screen to get an idea of how many miles your battery has left – the NAMI Burn-e gives you exact insights into your remaining range. This allows you to plan your ride and helps you figure out when it might be time to turn around and head home.
To access this feature, simply push the ‘M’ button to the left of the dashboard. Flick past your current, average, and maximum speed to arrive at the figure.
The only other scooter to do this is the Apollo Phantom. Plus, the general battery readout on the driver mode screen is accurate too.
Monitor the Condition of Your Scooter With Temperature and Power Readouts
One of the many things that amazes me about the Viper isn’t just that it offers up all kinds of insights unheard of in the rest of the high and ultra-performance scooter world. It’s that this data is available with just the push of a button.
Simply push the Viper’s on/off button to cycle through a range of settings. One of these causes the screen to flash up with readouts of the temperature of your scooter’s front and rear motors.This allows you to ensure that neither one overheats, and avoid potentially serious damage to your machine.*
Continuing to push that on/off button will eventually cycle you to a readout that shows the amount of power your Viper is consuming. Again, knowing this can help you avoid pushing your scooter beyond its limits, while also giving you a good indication as to how long you can remain at your current level of speed and acceleration.
*To help prevent overheating, I’d recommend heading to setting P12 to set the temperature at which your Viper’s motors switch to ‘Eco’ mode. If you live in a hot environment, this is even more pertinent, as it means your motors will be even more susceptible to overheating.
Speed Regulated Cruise Control
I think we’ve already established pretty comprehensively that the NAMI Burn-e isn’t like other scooters – so it’s no shock thatit introduces a game-changing cruise control feature.
To activate it, simply get to the speed you wish to stay at, keep your thumb on the throttle, and then hold the minus button for a couple of seconds. Once you see the small cruise control icon flash up in the top left corner of the screen, you’re cruising.
What’s key here, however, is that – unlike many other performance scooters – you can adjust the speed of your cruise.Simply use those plus and minus buttons to increase or decrease the pace you’re travelling at without having to disengage and then reactivate cruise control.
It’s nothing short of genius. Plus, it is really simple to use – the placement of the ergonomic thumb throttle on the right and the minus button on the left makes it seamless.
Lock and Unlock the Scooter with a 4-Digit Password
I’ve already made one comment comparing the NAMI Burn-e’s central interface to an iPhone, but here’s another way in which the two are similar.
Navigating to setting P14 allows you toset a four-digit password, which you’ll need to unlock and mobilize your scooter each time you ride it. This is a super handy anti-theft function that easily trumps the NFC (near-field communication) reader of the VSETT line, and the key-lock immobilizer we see on some of the performance scooter industry’s leading models.
However, the jury’s still out as to whether or not this password feature steals the crown from the fingerprint scanner included as standard on the Dualtron X II (and available as an add-on extra with other models from MiniMotors). I’m a huge fan of biometrics, so it’d be great to see NAMI utilizing tech from this field on future models.
Hidden USB Charging Port
Located just out of sight under the Viper’s screen is a hidden USB charging port, which isideal for charging your phone or other accessories while you’re out riding.
To activate it, keep the ‘M’ button to the left-hand side of the Viper’s handlebars depressed for around ten seconds. This will cause a USB icon to appear in the top left corner of the screen, which indicates that your Viper has begun outputting volts to the port and that it’s ready to start charging your devices on the go.
Super Bright 2000 Lumen Headlight, Mood Lighting, and Turn Signals
Frustratingly, a lot of the electric scooter market’s most expensive models come with lighting setups that aren’t powerful enough to offer full visibility at night. The NAMI Burn-e’s LEDs, however, firmly buck that trend. They offer some of the best illumination I’ve seen on a performance scooter, ever – period.
The Viper showcases a glaring, 2000 lumen headlight to guide your way at the front and responsive brake lights at the rear.
Running down the side of the deck is a strip of savvy LED lighting. Not only do these thin horizontal columns of white light afford youexcellent visibility to other traffic when riding at night, but they also serve as turn signals. Simply activate the indicators with the switch to the right side of the handlebars, and a ripple of orange light will move along the deck.
However, the turn signals suffer from the same issue as the VSETT 11+ – their placement on the side of the deck makes them hard to see from the front and rear. This, ultimately, reduces their effectiveness. To the untrained eye, the ripple effect can be easily misunderstood as ‘'mood' lighting instead of its practical function.
An improvement here would be for the turn signals to wrap around the front and rear of the deck and flash.
Range of Stem Turning Motion is Locked to Prevent Accidents
This nifty safety feature – which you can also admire on some of VSETT’s models – prevents the handlebars from over-rotating and ‘locking up’.
Over-rotation can be very easy to do; especially when you try to navigate sharp and treacherous bends in the road. It can also cause serious personal injury and harm, which is why it’s a relief that Michael and the team at NAMI have included a small screw on the top of the section that connects the swingarm to the base of the stem.This small screw has been positioned so the steering column can’t exceed a set degree of rotation to the left or right.
Easily Adjustable KKE Hydraulic Coil-Over Shock Suspension System
As I alluded to above in the ‘Shock-Absorption/Suspension’ section, the NAMI Burn-e’s 165 mm KKE hydraulic coil-shocks are entirely customizable.
And, this feature – called ‘rebound adjustment’ – issurprisingly easy to toggle.
Located on each of the Viper’s coil-over-shocks is a small circular red dial.Simply turn it one way or the other to increase or decrease the damping of your Viper’s suspension. Softer suspension works better foroff-road terrain– where you’ll be experiencing more ups and downs, and potentially attempting some stunts – while tuning the coil-shocks to a firmer setting will suit roads belonging to smoother, better-paved urban environments.
Multiple Water Resistance Ratings (IP55 & IP65)
Water-resistance ratings on electric scooter’s top-performing scooters are like buses. You wait forever for one… and then two show up at once.
Much to my pleasant surprise, the NAMI Burn-e has not one, but two water resistance ratings, IP55 and IP65.
An IP55 certification means that the Viper’s frame has passed tests with low-pressure water jets aimed at it from every direction. IP56 is the same, only with high-pressure jets. IP56 is the second-best level of water protection we see in the industry and is topped only by IP57. IP57 ratings indicate that a scooter is safeguarded from immersion at depths of between 15 cm and 1 meter.
It’s also worth mentioning here that none of the Dualtron range – the only brand to rival the Viper when it comes to specs, size, and features – boasts water-resistance ratings. So two, as you can imagine, is an absolute steal, and meansyou can feel confident taking the Viper out on a rainy day.

You’ll find a button with a horn icon on it to the right-hand side of the handlebars.
This is (wait for it) the horn, which also happens to be of the same decibel level as those you’ll see on motorcycles.Exercise with caution– especially if there are pets or the elderly in the vicinity.
The horn is located below the neck of the scooter and at the front/underside of the deck.
Rear Tyre Hugger
With all the major features, specs, and pieces of innovation the NAMI Burn-e introduces, it’s refreshing to see that it doesn’t neglect the little things.
The back wheel is fitted with a simple (but highly effective) tyre hugger. This is a piece of hard-wearing reinforced plastic, attached over the Viper’s rear wheel, thatprotects you from slinging mud all over the back of your jacket.

The only drawback for the Apollo Explore is its weight. At 23kg, although the scooter collapses down really well, it’s not the type of scooter you want to carry around for long. But then you didn’t buy it to carry! What the Apollo Explore does do is to fold down fully so it’s easy to store and the 4-hour charge plus the long 34 mile range means you can charge it without any hassle.

Power and Performance
Pulling no punches with it’s 52v 18.2ah Dynavolt battery, the Apollo Explore has an excellent range of 34 miles meaning you can ride it for a couple of days at least, without worrying about charging.
With a top speed of around 55km/h, this electric scooter’s speed makes it a head-turner and you’ll enjoy riding past all the traffic at breakneck speed.
The energy efficient, brushless 1000W motor gives you far more power than you’ll find on most electric scooters.
With a peak output of 1400W, whether off road or in more urban areas, you can look forward to leaving your friends straggling far behind The Apollo Explore isn’t a full scale off roader but it can find its way across grass, over dirt paths and up hills without any problem.
Construction & Build Quality
Built quality is another high focus area in which this electric scooter particularly excels. The Apollo Explore uses forged aluminum for all of the critical parts of the e-scooter (base, stem and handlebar), and the frame quality is second to none.
Additionally the Apollo Explore also has all external cables wrapped in hard plastic coil to prevent cut or torn cables.
Acceleration
Despite its lightning fast acceleration that takes you to 15mph in 3.5 seconds, the Apollo Explore is never anything less than a sturdy quiet ride and you’ll have no misgivings about dashing along at 30mph.
The official measurement from Apollo Scooters is from 0-15 MPH (25 km/h) in 3.5 seconds. On average, rider reviews state that they are able to reach the same speed in 3.7 to 3.8 seconds, so that’s very close. Lighter riders should be able to easily do 3.5 seconds or even beat that.
These numbers are definitely on the good end of the acceleration spectrum – especially considering the great ptice of this e-scooter. It won’t have the same pull as a dual-motor scooter, but the 1000W motor holds no punches as far as acceleration is concerned.

In it’s price class, the Apollo Explore offers some impressive speed. A 1000W rear motor with a peak output at 1400W enables the electric scooter to reach a top speed of 31 miles per hour or 50 km/h.

The Apollo Explore features a high-efficiency (86% energy conversion rate) brushless 1000W motor with 1400W peak output.
Brake System
With all that power, the Explore comes with exceptional braking capabilities. Featuring two high-performance disc brakes and an electric re-gen brake, it all adds up to an average braking distance of only 8 ft or 2.45 meters!
The re-gen brake activates when the brake handles are pressed, and works by passing a reverse current through the motor. This smoothly slows down the motor and re-charges the battery while doing so.

Ride Quality
Most riders report that the ride quality on the Explorer is really great, and offers a seamless ride by preventing the jarring bumps from rattling your teeth.
The ride quality on the Explorer is made possible by several important features.
Firstly, the scooter sports large pneumatic tires, which alongside the spring suspension in the rear and front, make for a smooth ride, on nearly all terrains.
We found the spring system to be well-balanced, neither too stiff nor too soft, meaning that this scooter won’t rattle even on the rough roads.
Another fantastinc element that promotes the great ride quality is the large 20” by 90” spacious deck that gives ample standing room. This is absolutely essential for your longer rides.
Another – often overlooked – ride quality element on the Explorer is the impressive 5.3″ of ground clearance. This seriously ups your gamel for dropping off curbs and getting over obstacles.
Portability
Despite being 23kg, the Apollo Explore folds up into a very compact size. The stem and front-wheel can be folded up over the deck and the handlebars can be screwed loose and folded in.
This is really great if you want to pop it in the boot of your car, or don’t want it to take too much space in your home.
Cockpit
For all your stats requirements, the Apollo Explore has a colourful LCD console to display all the information you need to track performance, current speed, distance, battery charge and more. Press mode and power together and you’ll be able to access all the data and tweaks you could ever want.
Apollo are all about attention to detail, so useful customisable extras include things like: multiple speed settings for different types of journeys, metric or imperial measurements, cruise control, different riding modes, etc.
You can even choose between kick-and-go or instant acceleration, as well as set the acceleration strength.
Lights
After dark, the Apollo Explore reaches new heights when coloured LED lights take your experience to a whole new level. Lights at the front, back, and along the deck and stem, create a fresh look guaranteed to draw plenty of attention.
You’ll find front and tail lights, as well as really cool blue lights under the deck and up the stem for an attention-grabbing yet practical look.
Despite the configured amount of lights on the Explore, you may also choose to add a light to the handlebars to boost your own line of vision as the view from up top in the dark isn’t as good as it could be.
Either way, the Apollo Explore is a really fun way to travel at night, and it’s always great to know you can just hop on your scooter and go when you’re ready.
Tyres
The Explore features dual 25.4-centimeter by 8-centimeter pneumatic tyres manufactured by HOTA. The generous diameter of these tyres really helps to smooth the impact if you happen to go over a pothole.
Because they are air filled, the tyres assist the suspension in providing a smoother overall ride. The increased width of the tyres makes the ride feel very stable, but don’t worry about handling, because the tyres also have rounded profiles that make the scooter feel nimble.
Another benefit of pneumatic tyres is that they tend to perform better in wet conditions, compared to solid airless tyres. The rubber is more supple and provides better traction in all conditions.
Yes, the tyres have inner tubes, making them more prone to getting flats than tubeless tyres. So that is why we recommend adding tyre sealant to your new scooter’s tyres, to reduce your chance of getting flats.
Deck
At 53 by 20 cm the Apollo Explore’s deck is far more generous than you’ll find on most electric scooters and it’s properly finished with plenty of grip as well as an on-trend blue and silver geometric design.
The Apollo Explore can take a maximum load of 120kg and the sizeable deck makes it easy to travel comfortably with both feet planted firmly.
Warranty & Support
With the Explore, Apollo have hit it out of the park!
Generally, cheap electric scooters tend to be drop-shipped and hardly have anything in the way of support and repair options. With Apollo Scooters the story is completely different. Operating out of Montreal, Canada, the guys behind the brand offer an impressive 24-month warranty, and this is really starting to change the entire e-scooter game.
Before they ship any scooter, the Explore undergoes a strict triple inspection quality control (143-point checklist) to ensure you get an electric scooter in perfect condition, right out of the box.
The Apollo team is highly knowledgeable, and they genuinely care about building their business on solid and responsive customer service. They even have a live chat system on their website allowing you to quickly get the answers you need. Very few brands offer this level of support in the current e-scooter market.
Maintenance
The Apollo Explore comes with its own multitool for everyday maintenance and if you really have a problem, you can always send your scooter to one of their repair centres.
As a bonus, you can go over to the Apollo YouTube channel, where there is an amazing collection of well-done self-maintenance videos with more being added on a regular basis.
A common statement by owners of Apollo scooters, is that it’s much more convenient to watch a video and do your own maintenance, compared to taking your scooter into a shop or mailing it somewhere.
Water Resistance
The Apollo Explore has a factory certified water-resistance rating of IP54. This means that the scooter should tolerate light rain with no problems. However, you should definitely not soak the scooter for long periods of time.
Please keep in mind that Apollo doesn’t cover water damage to the scooter. Because the scooter isn’t rated as waterproof, there is no way of Apollo to determine if the user exceeded the rating.
Known Issues

Motor Configuration
Before we talk about the power and the speed of the Dualtron Mini electric scooter, it’s important to remember that this really is a commuter electric scooter first and foremost. It has a 1,450 watt motor that’s perfect for city roads but really does well on a variety of road conditions. It’s definitely a little shorter than most scooter decks since it is a compact electric scooter, but the deck is wide enough for you to comfortably ride with both feet together on the deck.
It can support a rider weight of up to 100 kg. The handlebars are also very sturdy and well-built. The slight curvature of the bars helps increase stability and comfort. The handlebars also sport rubberized, ergonomic handgrips that make it easy for you to control the scooter without your hands slipping, even when you are travelling on rough terrain.
It’s built from aviation-grade aluminum alloy combined with steel, which is the product material you’re looking for or if you’re looking for something that’s both light and durable. The weight of the vehicle is about 22 kg.
Cockpit
We already talked about the handlebars, which are very sturdy and will remind you of the type of handlebars you would see on a mountain bike. The handlebars are fitted with an index finger accelerator, the brake lever (placed on the left side), and the EYE throttle LCD instrument panel.
The fact that the accelerator and LCD display are on the right side and the brake is on the left makes it easy and intuitive to use, even if you’ve never owned an electric scooter before. The fact that the accelerator must be pulled with the finger makes it a bit difficult to regulate precisely, especially if you are going fast or on a bumpy road. However, you can use the cruise control option if you ever need to rest your finger or you find it uncomfortable to have your finger on the accelerator all the time.
The LCD display is excellent and can be seen very clearly both in the sunlight and in the dark. You’ll be able to check your speed, range, and battery percentage with a quick glance at the display. Another interesting feature of the Dualtron Mini electric scooter is that it has three riding modes. Each of these modes has a speed limit assigned to it. If you really want to preserve your battery life, you should be riding in Mode 1 whenever possible, which is the slowest mode.
Braking
The braking system that comes with the Dualtron Mini is both very easy to use and reliable. Most importantly, the brakes are very easy to maintain as well. With the Dualtron Mini, you get a combination drum brake and electric brake, which guarantees braking power and makes it easily adjustable as well.
It also features an anti lock brake system, which keeps your tires from locking when braking. The rear drum brake is operated with a brake lever that is comfortably located on the handlebars.
The ABS and the electric brake work together to keep you safe in extreme situations and when you are riding the Dualtron Mini in slippery or dangerous conditions. It also features spring suspension, which enables it to handle rough terrain well.
Portability
One of the main reasons people buy it is the fact that it is compact and easy to transport. The folding system is easily one of the best that we’ve tested. The system is robust but also allows you to fold the scooter very easily. And as we already mentioned, the Dualtron Mini only weighs 22 kg, so it’s fairly easy to pick up if you need to load it into your car or get it into the house.
Lights
The lights on this e scooter are very cool, even though they might be more for show than they are truly functional. But they are very cool nonetheless. It has LED strips that run up the deck and stem of the scooter and when you turn them on, you get a very cool multi-coloured display that can really get you noticed when riding the streets at night.
Of course, it’s not just about looking cool. This multi-coloured display also keeps you visible and safe when you are riding at night.
However, these stylish LED lights on the deck and stem are obviously not the only lights that are featured on the Dualtron Mini. The scooter also features a dual LED headlight, lights on the steering pole and side panels, and a brake light to ensure that you are seen and secure in an urban environment, especially at night and when surrounded by other vehicles such as cars and motorcycles.
It also comes with a LED remote that you can use to customize all of the lighting.
Tyres
The Dualtron Mini electric scooter has pneumatic tyres. The tyre measures 23×5 cm and they are perfect for this size and type of electric scooter. However, these tyres will have to be maintained and you should be regularly checking the tyre pressure. And if the tyre goes flat, you will obviously have to replace it – these types of tyres can’t be repaired. However, the tyres are easy to change and you will probably be able to do it on your own without having to take it to a repair shop.
But what really provides the comfort and stability associated with it are the rubber suspensions and the front and rear spring suspension. The combination of the high-quality suspension and the top-of-the-line tyres makes riding the Dualtron Mini comfortable and stable even at higher speeds.
Deck
The deck has a sandpaper-textured layer to provide maximum grip. It also offers ample foot space for comfort and maximum control even on slightly rough surfaces. The size of the deck is proportionate to the rest of the scooter, enough for comfortable back to back footing. Don’t expect to stand with your feet side by side, the deck isn’t wide enough.
Reliability, Warranty & Customer Support
Warranties vary based on where you are buying the Dualtron Mini, but you’ll usually get a warrant of two years for the body and six months for the battery. It’s important to note that water damage will not be covered by the warranty in most cases.

The e-scooter industry might still be in its infancy, but these electrically-powered machines are enjoying an increasing amount of popularity by the day. People living in big cities have rushed to adopt this new trend out of purely practical reasons - with so many cars stuck in traffic, e-scooters are the shortcut more, and more people are willing to take. Factor in their relatively low maintenance costs and the fact that you can easily fold them for storage or transport purposes, plus the advantage of not getting to your destination with a sweaty back, like it happens with bicycles or kick scooters, and you get an unbeatable recipe.
But with high demand comes high offer. With more and more people looking to get an e-scooter, companies that produce them have multiplied like rabbits, and others are joining them as we speak. This means that you, the buyers, now has hundreds of options to choose from, from low-end, cheap e-scooters to performance and off-road-oriented ones. So, which one is best for you? Well, only you can decide that, but we’ll give you a hand with a guide that touches on what key aspects you should consider before placing that order.
SPEED
Performance is a paramount aspect when deciding to splash the cash for a new electric scooter. However, before deciding which level of performance is the right choice for you, a few concepts must be discussed, such as speed, power, and range. Let’s take them one at a time.
Are you buying your first e-scooter? Haven’t had the chance to ride one before? Well, it that case, you might be better off with an entry-level electric scooter. These days, you can get an e-scooter that’s capable of reaching speeds of 90 mph, but do you really need it?
As we see it, around the city you’ll be just fine with an electric scooter that can pull off around 15 mph, which is already more than five times the speed you’ll reach on foot (without running, obviously).
Speed is also dictated by the type of surface at your disposal. And we all know that not every patch of asphalt is smooth around the city. But there are e-scooters which are capable of doing as much as 40+ mph. Then again, ask yourself this: is this top speed a realistic target for you? Do you want to slalom around parked cars at this speed? Of course, if you can find a safe space with smooth asphalt and zero obstacles, a 40-mph e-scooter can be fun as hell, but otherwise, you’ll never get to enjoy its full potential.
POWER
An e-scooter’s electric motor can output as low as 250W or as high as 100000W. However, most e-scooters will offer around 500W to 2000W worth of power, coming from one or two electric motors found inside the wheel or wheels. A high-power electric motor is useful when your commute route includes steeper inclines or when you travel long, straight patches of smooth asphalt with low traffic, when you’ll want to reach top speed more quickly - or a particular cruising speed that allows you to save time and get to your destination without being late.
RANGE
Range-wise, try to think about how will you use the e-scooter. Is your commute rather long? Then you might want an electric scooter that’s fitted with a larger battery. Of course, going for a bigger battery not only increases costs but also adds more weight into the mix, which is something we’ll address in the following section. However, if you plan on using the e-scooter around the park on weekends for mild strolling around, then you won’t necessarily need a long-range one.
Charging is also important here. If you’re planning to use your e-scooter on a daily basis, then go for one that charges faster (3-4 hours).
If not, you can pick one that needs a bit more time to charge, since you won’t be needing it that often anyway. Tip: when checking out e-scooter specs for range estimates, makes sure to take into account that producers bump the theoretical values by 30% compared to what you’ll get in real life. Also, range is affected by variables such as rider weight, extra load, terrain incline, surface quality, and speed.
COMFORT
It goes without saying that riding an e-scooter should also be comfortable. In essence, we mean as few vibrations and shakes as possible, no wrist pain after prolonged use, and a relaxed and anatomically correct position while riding. For that to happen, you must take a good look at the following.
WHEELS
Wheels are your connection to the ground. They provide traction, but they also help cushion the irregularities that rough terrain might throw at you. So when talking about comfort on an electric scooter, it’s paramount to discuss wheels.
Now, there are two types of wheels: air-filled wheels and solid wheels.
The former are preset on high-end e-scooters and work just like those you’ve got on a car: the air inside provides a cushion that soaks up bumps and whatnot. Air tires are better for handling, especially on wet/slippery surfaces due to their flexibility, but they do require more maintenance and are quite prone to punctures. Solid tires (or airless tires) have that rugged factor, but since there’s nothing to absorb the shocks, you’ll feel pretty much every knock and jerk unless you pick ultra-flat surfaces to ride on. On the other hand, they require virtually zero maintenance without the risk of getting a flat tire.
SUSPENSION
Once you’ve sorted out the tire choice, it’s time to focus on suspension. Now, if you pick a scooter that has air tires, a suspension system might not be a priority - or at least not a fancy one with multiple shocks, as seen on performance e-scooters. However, if you know your city has bad roads, then a combo of the two (air tires + suspension) could make all the difference in the world. Usually, manufacturers fit their e-scooters with suspension setups that focus just on one wheel or on both, with the latter variety being more expensive but also a lot more comfortable. Our advice is to get an e-scooter that offers suspension at least on one wheel.
WEIGHT & SIZE
Last but not least, finding a comfortable e-scooter for your build and frame contributes a lot to the comfort case. Just think about it: would you be able to control an e-scooter that’s too large for you? Then again, won’t it be tricky to maintain balance on an undersized electric scooter? What if your feet don’t fully fit in on the board? How will you ride? It’s the same with the e-scooter’s weight. So, again, try to think how you will use it: your building doesn’t have an elevator? Well, even if the scooter is foldable, you’ll still have to carry it to your apartment by taking the stairs. Most decent e-scooters out there tip the scales at a little over 11 kilos, but performance-oriented one can weigh up to 50+kilos or even more than that, depending on the amount of gear and components they use.
SAFETY
Yes, safety is a must when riding an e-scooter. So let’s start with brakes. They are usually fitted according to the electric scooter’s motor power and can be of various sorts: electric/regenerative, foot brakes (where you brake by pressing the rear wheel fender), drum brakes, and disc brakes.
Disc brakes are the best compromise in terms of bite power and lightness, but drum brakes are also good if you’re looking at a no-nonsense, low-maintenance brake system.
Foot brakes can also work, but since you’ll brake the rear wheel with your foot, it’s easier to lose balance and skid. Foot brakes, however, are better than electric ones, which are the weakest of the bunch. So if you’re looking for short stopping distances, look elsewhere.
Another aspect of safety has to do with the protective gear. Although this is the last thing people take into account when buying an e-scooter, a helmet, coupled with the proper knee and elbow pads, can save your life or help you avoid severe, potentially crippling injuries.
PRACTICALITY
Let’s say you commute has sections that can be covered by using public transportation. In this case, naturally, you’ll want your e-scooter to be foldable to some extent. It goes the same if you’re planning to take it on the plane - some airlines have strict e-scooter policies that don’t allow larger or heavier e-scooters onboard their planes. While most e-scooters out there offer folding capabilities, some are easier to pack while others take more steps. Balance these factors and based on where and when you’ll be using your e-scooter, try to pick the variant that works best for you.
PRICE
As a rule of the thumb, an e-scooter’s quality and level of gear improve as the price goes up. That doesn’t mean you can’t find bargains or products that offer outstanding value for money, but usually, it’s the higher-priced e-scooters that offer the best of everything in terms of range, speed, sturdiness, comfort, and safety.
To put things into perspective, a £250 electric-scooter most likely won’t deliver any of the above qualities, while an e-scooter that’s priced at, let’s say, £700- £1500 or more, is bound to be better built and assembled, as well as more equipped to satisfy your needs.
Ultimately, it would help a lot if you could test ride the thing before buying it, but that’s not what the real world teaches us. Today, you can buy one such e-scooter with just about three mouse clicks, without even seeing it, let alone taking it for a spin. Michael! The world is excited for the Nami Burn-E Viper. I wanted to thank you for allowing us to join your journey and giving us visibility on the magic that happens behind the curtains.
As an enthusiast, I’ve learned so much about how your electric scooter works and the critical engineering decisions behind them.
Could you tell us about yourself, past work experience and how you got into the personal electric mobility industry?
I studied economics in college and work mostly in international trade, I speak both English and Japanese.
My last job (before entering the PEM industry) was sales in Japanese carbon fiber products and manufacturing.
I used to ride a lot MTB, and the company offered the job at an interesting time, so I decided to get into the industry.
At what point did you decide to pursue making the Nami Viper and what is your main motivation?
At the point where I believed there was a good market for the industry. There is also a lack of innovation and quality control. My goal is to change that.
Could you tell us about your team and their experience in developing the Nami Burn-E Viper?
I designed the Viper electric scooter with an industrial designer in China, he is well knowledged, but also new to the electric scooter world. He makes my ideas work. My marketing team is some of the best in the business.
What’s the biggest lesson learned from creating your own electric scooter company?
Things are much harder to do when compared with what is in your mind. If you have a will, you can make it work. There’s alot of people who will not support you, and in the meantime, there’s some who will.
What’s the electric vehicle community like in your city?
I live in Ningbo China. Over here, there isn’t much electric scooter riding in our community, besides some of the manufacturer employees in the area. At Nami, we have 4 colleagues who ride electric scooters almost every day. On some weekends, we’ll go on 100 KM rides for fun, and of course, test the limits of the Viper.

As a machine, it means business and is ideal as the next level up from more moderate scooters, such as the Apollo Ghost or any of the Manti models.

Is the Price Tag Worth it?
At £1995, the VSETT 10+is competitively priced.
It’s cheaper than the Wolf Warrior – which, as you’ll see in the next section, sports similar specs. However, with the 10+, you’re getting a lighter, more portable scooter with some extra safety features that are well-suited to an urban environment.
Compared to the VSETT 11+, it is cheaper. The 11+ will give you more speed (53 vs 50 mph), a faster acceleration (dual 1500W vs dual 1400W motors), greater load-bearing capacity (330 vs 285 lbs), and a superior suspension system (front hydraulic and dual rear springs vs front spring and rear hydraulics). Aside from these differences, both scooters share almost all of the same features. You can think about the 11+ like a souped-up 10+. If you’re in the market for a cost-effective scooter and want a model that is nimble and still packs a punch, then you’re going to be very happy with the 10+.
Design
Handlebars
Measuring up at 25.5 inches wide, the handlebars are on par with the likes of those on the VSETT 9+R, as well as other high-performance models like theVarla Eagle One.
While they aren’t as broad as the ultra-wide 27.5-inch handlebars shown off by the VSETT 11+, the handlebars do have something their feature-rich successor lacks – they fold.
In addition to being fully collapsible, the handlebars and stem are super secure when locked into place for riding. For that, you can thank the scooter’s secure triple locking mechanism. This is different from the dual collar clamps you’ll see on the 11+. The level-like mechanism allows you to ride with confidence, free of irritating stem wobble that we’ve seen hinder the ride quality and comfort of other high-performance models.
As well as flaunting a curved, ergonomic shape that’s as easy on the eye as it is on your shoulders, the handlebars are home to some of the scooter’s finest features. Here’s where you’ll find the QS-S4 display and integrated throttle, dual brakes, and motor controls alongside a Turbo Boost button for an added injection of power.
Frame
As we’ve come to expect from the VSETT range – or, more accurately, high-performance scooters in general – the 10+R sports a sturdy frame that’s made from an aerospace-grade aluminum alloy.
Substance? Tick. But what about style?
Hell yeah. The 10+R keeps the same overarching design principles as the 9+R – black, but with colorful accents adding a dash of personality. However, the 10+R trades in the airy aquamarine tones of the 9+R, and replaces them with an eye-popping, industrial yellow that I’m a huge fan of.
The frame is reminiscent of the colors of Bumblebee – Sam Witwicky’s best pal in the Transformers movies – thatyou could be forgiven for wondering if this thing is moonlighting as a world-saving robot.
The highlights of colors are undoubtedly a nice touch, but – importantly – they don’t step over the line into the lurid, over-the-top territory of the 11+. If the 10+R is Bumblebee, the 11+ is somewhere between Optimus Prime, Spiderman, and Captain America – so as you can imagine, it’s a little much.
Deck
At 27 inches long, the deck is a little shorter than the 11+’s, and at 8.5 inches wide, it is a little broader than its younger sibling, the 9+R.There’s plenty of space to strike a comfortable stance.
Like the rest of the VSETT range, the deck sports a silicone surface, making it superior to the grip tape on similar scooters, such as theVarla Eagle Oneand Zero 11X.
The style of the 10+R’s deck makes it easier to wipe down than the 11+, too – unlike the latter, the 10+R isn’t covered in crevices that are difficult to access with a sponge or brush.
Another way in which the 10+R outdoes the 11+ is in the design of its charging ports, which are located at the front of the deck. The 11+R’s ports feature sliding covers which – frustratingly – are prone to sliding off during riding, exposing the ports to damage from the elements. The 10+R’s ports, however, utilize a far more effective waterproof seal, so you’ll have no such worries here.
Wheels
The VSETT 10+R wears a pair of 10 x 3-inch pneumatic tires.
As well as beingplush enough to deliver a stable ride, they provide plenty of insulation to soak up the terrain underfoot, whilst their width maintains a decently-sized contact patch for continual traction.
Working with the front spring suspension and rear hydraulic coil-over-shocks, the wheels form a key part of the scooter’s shock absorption capabilities.
Putting the tires under scrutiny,they have the smallest profile when compared to the 10+R’s closest competitors. For example, theWolf Warriorhas 11 by 3.5 inch tubeless pneumatic tires, and the VSETT 11+ has a set that measures 11 by 4 inches.
By spreading weight over a larger contact patch, the amount of friction (grip) increases. This translates to enhanced handling, especially while riding at top speeds. The wider tires also dramatically reduce cases of slippage when riding in wet conditions. However, there is an upside to the smaller profile – they are more nimble meaning you can execute sharper turns.
Build Quality & Durability
Like its fellow VSETT siblings, the frame is made from a hard-wearing – but, importantly, lightweight – aerospace-grade aluminum alloy. To be precise, it is the same material used on theVSETT 11+andWolf King. Known as 6082-T6, it is used to build highly stressed applications, bridges, cranes, and other heavy-duty structures.
The shaft – which is made of a special type of carbon chromium alloy steel called SCM400 – offers durability in spades, while the rear fender is sturdy reinforced plastic. The deck is finished in a silicone surface, while the handlebars are coated in a rubberized material for grip. It comes with anIP54 water resistance rating, too.
Better still, the 10+R forgoes the unreliability of the traditional collar clamp and utilizes a secure triple locking mechanism to secure the stem. This is a superb safety feature and means you won’t have to worry about your scooter’s stem wobbling when riding at pace.
Perhaps my only gripe about the way the 10+R is built is that the handlebars have a unique shape. This can make it tough to mount accessories on, such as a GoPro or phone holder, but is unlikely to be a deal-breaker.
The fact that I’m resorting to nitpicking here to find anything wrong withthe 10+R’s build quality shows you just how well this thing is made.
Weight & Load
At 79 lbs, it is surprisingly lightweight for the power on offer.
It’s closer in weight to the slim 9 and 9+R models than it is to the 11+, and – despite not boasting all the same trappings and features as its stockier sibling – it benefits from a simpler, pared-back design and build.
To further paint the picture of the lightweight frame, we only have to look at the rest of the scooters in our database. Applying a 10 lb range from 74 to 84 lbs (with the 10+R’s 79 lbs in the middle),the 10+R is, pound-for-pound, the most powerful out of all 17 models that fall within the weight bracket.
For context, the 10+R has a power to weight ratio of 0.63, where for every pound of scooter weight there is 0.63 mph.
In comparison, some of the scooters it beats are theDualtron Ultrawhich follows the 10+R for a podium position of second place (0.62), the EVOLV Pro-R, and Apollo Pro 60V in the middle (0.55), and the Zero 10X closing up the pack (0.48).
Similarly, the 10+R, joint with the Dualtron 3, has the best range to weight ratio of all scooters within its weight bracket (0.94) – where for every pound of scooter weight there are 0.94 miles of range. This is nearly double that of the Zero 10X’s 0.48.
Now that we’ve covered weight in detail, let’s take a look at its load-bearing capabilities.
The VSETT 10+R can support a load of up to 285 lbs. Whilst this is 65 lbs more than standardcommuter scooters, it does fall short of its rivals and other high-performance scooters, like theWolf WarriorandVSETT 11+that can both support up to 330 lbs. It also doesn’t come close to the Herculean 400 lb load-bearing that Kaabo’sWolf Kingcan support.
But, when you consider how light it is – particularly when weighed alongside those three hulking scooters – that 285 lb load starts looking pretty impressive. Plus, 285 lbs should be enough to support most riders.
Unlike its big bro, the 11+, as well as both Wolf models, it sports foldable handlebars and a hook, located at the top of the stem, which locks into the kickplate. This makes the 10+R infinitely more portable
Enhanced portability means that it is well-suited if you’re looking for a high-performance scooter that you can store and lift with relative ease
Assembly
It requires a small amount of assembly. You receive detailed instructions alongside everything you need – including a handy multi-tool – to put the scooter together.
Make sure you check all nuts, bolts, and screws are tight, and that your tires are pumped up to the correct pressure before taking it out on your inaugural ride.
Ride Quality
Is the VSETT 10+R Comfortable to Ride?
For the price you pay, aside from theWolf Warrior, you won't find a more comfortable ride than the VSETT 10+R.
Working alongside a set of chubby 10 inch pneumatic tires – the kind that screams comfort – the 10+R’s front spring and rear hydraulic suspension delivers superlative heights of ride quality whilst the smooth but responsive hydraulic brakes instill confidence.
To achieve this, the VSETT 10+R combines the best of both worlds. The scooter’s perfectly matched set of coil-over-shocks (the kind that could almost give theDualtron Xa run for its money) work toabsorb the most vicious tests of rough terrain, while its swingarms play a pivotal role in facilitating a deep level of suspension.
If you still want the style, specs, and swagger of a top scooter with the ride quality to match, the VSETT 10+R should be firmly in your crosshairs.
Performance & Safety
Speed & Acceleration
Capable of reaching top speeds of 50 mph, the 10+R is in the same league as heavy-hitting high-performance scooters such as theWolf Warrior, as well as models such as theDualtron Thunderand theDualtron Ultra– both of which make the 10+R’s relatively modest price point look like chump change.
Yep – the 10+R is one speedy customer. However, there is one catch… you’ll only be able to reach the maximum 50 mph velocity for up to 2-minutes at a time.
That’s becausethe 10+R’s top speed can only be reached when you activate Sport (aka Turbo Boost) mode. In my review of the VSETT 11+, I compared this to NOS (otherwise known as nitrous oxide) – a sneaky feature you could use to supercharge your speed in the classic game Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit. Pushing the blue Sport button to the left side of the handlebars activates a 2-minute injection of 5 more Ah of power to provide a quick shot of rocket fuel whenever you need it.
Once you’ve used up your two minutes – annoying, I know, but that cap is in place to preserve the longevity of the motors, controller, and battery – you have to wait for the 10-minute cooling-off period before you can go again. Dropping down into the 10+R’s dual-mode (i.e. without Turbo Boost activated) will see you maintain a speed between 44 and 47 mph.
Whilst the 10+R shares the same top speed as the aforementioned, and extremely popular, Wolf Warrior, when you dig deeper into performance,the 10+R lays claim to a much faster acceleration rate. This is a result of the larger dual 1400W motors (vs the Warrior’s dual 1200W motors).
Range
Anyone familiar with my review of the VSETT 11+ will know how much I waxed lyrical about its impressive maximum mileage (85 miles).
The 10+ very nearly hits the same heights (74 miles) as its successor andsolidifies its spot in theupper-echelon of long-range rides.
For this, we can thank the 60V 28.0Ah LG battery, a step up from the 48V 21Ah battery powering the likes of the VSETT 9+R and 8R.
The bottom line? The VSETT 10+R has one of the longest ranges known to man. If you want to ride for days. rather than hours, you can’t look past this scooter.
However, it is important to note, that the 74 mile range is dependent on best-case riding conditions that include a 165 lb rider, flat terrain, and the lowest speed setting. This is the case with all electric scooters (you can read more about this in ourlong-range scooter guide). So, the most important information for you to be aware of is that you should,under realistic conditions (i.e. riding with both motors engaged), see around 37-42 miles.
Hill Climbing
The 10+R can handle hills of up to an absurd 35-degrees.
This is largely down to the work of the dual 1400W motors. To put that in perspective, the amount of power and torque the motors generate is the perfect middle point between the Zero 10X 60V’s 1200W motors and the dual 1600W motors of the Zero 11X.
Put simply, that’s a lot of power. And that’s not even counting the Turbo Boost mode, which adds a shot of adrenaline to your motors to help you over the most ambitious slopes.
Shock Absorption / Suspension
Sitting in the middle ground between the VSETT 9’s spring suspension and the 11’s mix of hydraulic and coil-over-shocks, the 10+R strikes a perfect balance pairing a front spring with an adjustable rear hydraulic coil-over-shock. Combined with its swingarms the systemfacilitates a deep level of suspension.
As a result, it is perfectly suited to urban terrain and can soak up the challenges of forest trails, dirt tracks, and hiking paths. Ifextreme off-roadingis more your bag, and you plan to ride over rough, rocky terrain, then I recommend theWolf Warrior. It’s slightly cheaper but boasts a superior motorcycle-grade inverted hydraulic suspension system in the front and dual springs in the rear that are tailor-made for tackling cross-country circuits.
Braking
Fitted with a pair of front and rear Nutt hydraulic brakes, which you operate via the levers on the handlebars, it hashighly responsive and impressive stopping power.
Various reports have shown that the brakes are smooth to operate without the jerkiness that you can get on other high-performance scooters.
Plus, the 10+R has inherited the same electronic anti-lock braking system (E-ABS) as the VSETT 11+. In simple terms, this prevents your brakes from locking up to avoid skidding and loss of control while braking at top speeds.
Charge Time
The battery takes around14 hours to reach full charge, which is 2 hours less than the 11+ and 3 hours less than the Wolf Warrior.
Utilizing an extra charger drives the charge time down to 7 hours.
Extra Features
QS-S4 Display & Throttle for Customized Performance Configuration
Sporting a new-and-improved QS-S4 display and throttle – which fixes some of the bugs that plagued that of the previous model – it serves as your scooter’s central command system and cockpit.
This where you’ll keep tabs on your riding mode, speed, and battery life, as well as monitor the distance you’ve covered on your current trip and overall mileage.
Because the QS-S4 which is a standardized piece of tech, that also appears on models from Varla, Apollo, Kaabo, EVOLV, and Zero, doubles as a throttle, it’s where you’ll control your scooter’s speed and acceleration.
While the encasing can fool an untrained eye into thinking that the QS-S4 is the EY3 from MiniMotors, it is not as customizable or high-tech. However, it still allows you totinker with just about everything you need. Via a range of P-settings, you can activate cruise control, play with the strength of the regenerative braking system, and adjust your scooter’s auto-turn-off settings.
DDM Button to Control Dual Motors
The DDM button – which is located to the left of your handlebars, next to the Sport button –allows you to toggle your dual 1400W motors. After all, it’s unlikely you’ll need the combined power of them all the time; so why not flip the switch on one, and conserve some energy for those longer rides.
Sport (aka Turbo Boost) Button to Inject 5Ah More Power for 2-Minutes of Rocket Fuel
Intrigued by that blue Sport button on the handlebars? You should be.
Hitting it will give you a 2 minute burst of speed: funneling an extra 5Ah of rocket fuel into your drivetrainallowing you to reach the adrenaline-thumping 50 mph top speed.
The only drawback here is that your time at the top will, sadly, be limited. After the 2 minutes of extra power, the scooter’s overheating safety feature steps in, turning Turbo Boost mode off and dropping your pace back down around 44 mph. The scooter needs 10 minutes to cool before you can re-engage the Sport button.
Ultimately, this high-paced, strenuous mode of riding is limited to prevent your scooter’s controller from overheating, and relieve the demands on the battery and motors.
Cruise Control
Hit the P17 setting on your QS-S4 display to coax its cruise control into gear.
This (all but indispensable) feature allows you to maintain a constant speed, without having to keep the throttle pressed down.
NFC Key-Lock Immobilizer (Anti-Theft Function)
The 10+R comes equipped with a key-lock immobilizer, meaning thieves won’t be able to activate the scooter without the right technology.
That technology, in this case, is NFC (near-field communication), which is the same stuff as you find in contactless credit and debit cards. Your 10+R will arrive witha card that you use to unlock the scooter by waving it near the small readerlocated on the right side of the handlebars.
The card can slot into your wallet – so you don’t have to worry about losing it – and is less apt to be cloned or copied than a key, which affords that added layer of security.
Battery Voltage Display
As with all high-performance scooters, the 10+R is equipped with a battery voltage display that sits underneath the QS-S4 display.
This provides anaccurate reading of how much juice you have leftin the tan so you can plan the duration of your rides accordingly.
Horn
Handily located on the left side of the handlebars, just under the DDM and Sport mode buttons, it’s easy to access when you need it in a hurry.
It’s not as loud as the ground-quaking 105 decibels of the VSETT 11+’s motorcycle-grade horn, butyou’ll certainly be heard by pedestrians.
Adjustable Suspension
While I’ve made a point of noting that the suspension system is superior to most of its closest rivals, its adjustable suspension is the cherry on top of the cake.
You can customize the rear spring-coil suspension to suit whichever surface you plan on traversing.Tune the shock absorption down to be stiffer for harder asphalt roads and high-speed rides, or increase it to be softer foroff-road adventures.
Adjustable spring suspension is fast becoming a standard feature of high-performance scooters so this isn’t unique to the 10+R.
Range of Stem Turning Motion is Locked to Prevent Accidents
It’s always refreshing to see scooter brands go the extra mile to ensure rider safety, and this particular feature – which is a staple of the VSETT range – is a doozy.
The range of motion when steering is locked. This means you’re protected from the effects of turning too tightly, which can cause the handlebars to swivel at a 90-degree angle. At best, this safety hazard can bring you to an abrupt stop, and rattle you. At worst, it can throw you off the scooter, causing serious injury.
Fortunately,the 10+R has been designed to prevent the handlebars from over-rotating and locking up, and will keep you safe, sound, upright, and – most importantly – on the scooter.
LED Lights and Turn Signals
The illumination comes courtesy of a front headlight, button lights, and responsive rear tail lights.
Typically, I find myself let down by the overall quality and brightness of the LED lights that you find on scooters. They just never seem to be enough, and while the 10+R’s setup isadequate for nighttime riding, you’ll certainly benefit from attaching an extra headlight to the handlebars. Alternatively, you could opt for theWolf Warrior,Wolf King, or even theVSETT 11+, which serve up the brightest headlights around.
The headlight also suffers from a separate issue that’s related to its placement.
It is located on the front fender, directly above the tire. This causes the light to bounce up and down when the suspension is pressed causing the front fender to be tilted backward at an angle. On the bright side, this issue is only noticeable on rough terrain, so it doesn’t detract from the 10+R’s function as a market-leading urban scooter.
Nevertheless, having a headlight in addition to the two front button lights is a bonus that you rarely see on high-performance scooters. Most (and here I’m looking at you, the Zero 10X and Apollo Pro models) just stick to button lights.
The 10+R is also one of just a handful of scooters to have turn signals. Not only that but – since they’re located on the front and back of the scooter, rather than the side – they’re far more effective than those on the VSETT 11+.
Folding Handlebars for Enhanced Portability
Combining style with portability, the folding handlebars collapse inward, making the scootereasier to store and carry compared to other high-performance models.
It shares this feature with the rest of the VSETT lineup, except for the 11+ because of the sheer size and unadulterated bulk of the thing. Foldable handlebars aren’t a feature you see on scooters similar to the 10+R, such as the Wolf Warrior, Zero 10X, or Apollo Pro.
Wave Goodbye to Collar Clamps, Say Hello to a Secure Triple Stem Locking Mechanism
Collar clamps. Two words bound to strike uncertainty into the heart of many seasoned scooter enthusiasts. But good news, everybody – as the title of this section suggests, the 10+R does away with that frustrating staple of the electric scooter world, and instead favors an innovative triple stem locking mechanism.
As you may already be well aware, collar clamps tend to come loose and cause stem wobble. This new mechanism from VSETT, however, isas solid as a rock, so you’ll never feel as though you’re lacking stability when riding at high speeds. It would have been nice to see this on the 11+ too but you can’t have it all.
IP54 Water Resistance Rating
Like the rest of the VSETT range, it comes with an IP54 water resistance rating. This certification means the scooter issplash-proof from all angles.
This is a super handy credential to boast, although it’s made even more impressive by the fact that water resistance ratings aren’t nearly as common as they should be in the world of high-performance scooters. None of Dualtron’s or INOKIM’s scooters sport them, and it’s a glaring omission even on scooters of as high a caliber as the ever-popular Mantis.
However, it is important to bear in mind that water damage isn’t covered under warranty. So, I recommend avoiding riding when it’s wet out.

One more step closer. Fantastic news today in Ireland where Ministers say 'Use of e-scooters will not require tax, insurance or driving licence'
The plan is for a new vehicle category, powered personal transporters, which will be legal to use in public but within a new safety framework.
E-scooters and and e-bikes are finally to be regulated on Irish roads, Minister for TransportEamon Ryanhas said.
He said on Monday the Government had given approval to draft new legislation in this area.

Announcing the development, Mr Ryan said tax, insurance and driving licences will not be required for the use of e-scooters.
Further rules on exactly where and how they can be used will all be included in the forthcoming Road Traffic (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill.
The law will also differentiate e-bikes, depending on their size. The Minister said that while they will be treated “mainly in the same way” as normal bicycles, more powerful models would be considered akin to light mopeds.

The number of electric scooters available for hire in York will increase from 100 to 700 by the end of February.
Electric bikes will also be added to the trial scooter scheme which is operated by private company Tier.
The city council was told 3,822 trips were made in the six weeks since it launched in September 2020 and no-one had been injured during that period.
It has also backed plans to expand the area the scheme covers.
The Department for Transport-backed one-year trial will include Clifton, Rawcliffe, Southbank, Fulford and Heworth by the end of February, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service .
Scooters can be hired using a phone app at the city's two universities, the hospital and locations in the city centre, and can only be used on roads and cycle lanes, not on footpaths.
The company uses geofencing technology to locate the scooters. It also enables Tier to prevent users from travelling above a certain speed limit, on pedestrianised streets or outside the approved operating zones.
The government changed the law in 2020 to allow electric scooters to be used as part of council-run rental schemes and riders must hold at least a provisional driving licence and be insured.
It remains illegal to use privately owned e-scooters on roads.

You might have started seeing more of them on streets and in parks, gliding past you with a faint electric hum. As lockdowns lift and people avoid public transport, e-scooters – stand-up, electrically powered scooters – are becoming more popular.
The easing of lockdowns has highlighted the importance of individual, emission-free, socially distanced transport as governments try to prevent a spike and pollution. But the story of e-scooters is one of both a popular tech gadget and a contentious form of transport. While they offer a seemingly fun and environmentally friendly option for short journeys, a range of questions about their safety and sustainability have emerged in the past two years.
So how did e-scooters go from risky tech novelty to a green travel solution for the coronavirus recovery?
E-scooters have been available to privately buy for over a decade but many remain prohibitively expensive. It took the affordable, accessible option of shared, dockless models – which can be rented by the minute using a smartphone app – for their popularity to skyrocket. In 2018, shared e-scooter startups Bird and Lime rapidly introduced them to US cities. Soon after, the companies – along with a proliferation of other startups, including European-based Voi and Tier – began to rapidly expand across cities internationally.
The start-up Voi claims its service is now fully carbon-neutral, achieved through measures including swappable batteries, longer-lasting scooter design and electrification of service fleets. Voi first implemented these measures in Paris, where they were found to reduce emissions by 71%, according to a report from EY. Tier is working to move all its warehouses to run on green electricity by the end of 2020, as well as replace all diesel vans and have all e-scooters using swappable batteries by 2021. Tier’s operations in Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, and France already run entirely on e-vehicles.
“New normal”
Such apparent commitment to sustainability no doubt appeals to governments in the coronavirus recovery as they seek to support transport needs that adhere to social distancing while avoiding increases in polluting car use.
Although many shared e-scooters were taken out of service during lockdowns, they are slowly returning to cities, with ramped-up cleaning measures. Meanwhile, retailers have reported sales of private e-scooters increasing in places including Finland, Ireland and the UK, despite their use on public streets still being illegal in the latter two countries. Things are set to change quite extensively in the UK, though. Shared e-scooter trials were planned for 2021 in four select areas, but in response to the newly restricted capacity of public transport, were brought forward to this summer and offered nationally.
But the UK is not alone in embracing e-scooters as part of post-Covid transport strategies. In Australia, Brisbane recently decided to extend its e-scooter trial by a year, expanding provision into the suburbs as part of efforts to increase active transport in the coronavirus recovery. In Colombia, Bogotá changed its’ e-scooter regulations to allow more providers to offer their services post-lockdown, with no payment to the city. In Argentina, Buenos Aires is actively encouraging short trips to be taken by bicycles and scooters, which it says “play a fundamental role in the mobility of residents in this new scenario”.
Rome welcomed its first shared e-scooters in May. “Rome is starting again under the banner of sustainable mobility,” said mayor Virginia Raggi of the new scheme. “During these unprecedented times, our habits have changed, and as an administration, we are promoting new mobility choices.”
The Italian government’s Covid-19 Task Force has partnered with e-scooter company Helbiz to help support socially distanced mobility across the country. “It is necessary to change the paradigm and make a Copernican revolution in the mobility industry,” says Filomena Maggino, head of the task force’s mobility delegation. “We are prioritising the wellbeing of our citizens and choosing the options that allow everyone to move without compromising sustainability. Micro-mobility solutions embody the needs for fair and sustainable mobility.” The government is also offering resident subsides for buying an e-scooter.Now, e-scooter sharing schemes are available in more than 100 cities, across at least 20 countries, from Chile to South Korea to New Zealand – although Europe and the US continue to dominate in terms of use. Research suggests that by 2024, 4.6 million shared e-scooters will be in operation worldwide, up from 774,000 in 2019.

On Monday 30th November, the Leeds based online business, ManFirth, Yorkshires largest seller of E-bikes and E-scooters open their new store and showroom.
Will Pugh,one of the entrepreneurs behind ManFirth: “Our ambition is to be the largest E-bike and E-scooter retailer in the North of England. To date, all our sales have been online, so opening the store is a huge achievement and milestone for us.”
Manfirth was launched in the first national lockdown.
The business is the brainchild of partners Natalie Firth, owner of Just The fox ConsultancyandWill Pugh, owner of Hessian bar and restaurant located in Oakwood. As a result of the pandemic in March 2020 they launched ManFirth, a purely online E-scooter and E-bike business.
When the country went into the first lockdown, The duo realised they may need a plan B and set about creating a new business not based around the hospitality industry in which they both work. Deciding that if they were to survive the devastating impact the pandemic had on the restaurant industry some forward-thinking and adapting was required.
Will said, “After seeing a growing trend on Instagram and as a fan of ‘boys toy’s we quickly saw a gap in the market for ‘E-scooters’ aimed at the 20 – 30 male. Within weeks of launching online, the response was phenomenal, and within three months, we were selling £xxxx worth of E-bikes and E-scooters from a lock-up.”
The ManFirth Electric showroom which is located in Holbeck, will not only be the largest E-scooter showroom in the North of England it will also offer a full range of retail, repair and servicing facilities. The store will stock a wide range of E-bikes, E-scooters and accessories from leading manufacturers as well as their own brand The Firth Ion E-bike and The Firth Eco E-scooter.
What sets ManFirth apart is that customers will be able to test drive and test the product before they buy which along with friendly and helpful customer service the duo believe gives them a great point of difference and will set them apart from their online competitors.

The store opening also coincides with Department for Transport (DfT) consultations to fast-track trials of E-scooters in towns across the UK.
In response to Covid-19 and the need to introduce transport alternatives to public transport and private cars, the DfT is inviting applications from any town across Britain to operate E-scooter trials over the next 12 months.
With public transport compromised due to Covid-19 infection risks. E-bikes and E-scooters are not only becoming a great hobby; they are the perfect short journey alternatives for both business and leisure.
